Excessive Lean Angle! (Ducati 749 Side Stand)

No not my riding I'm not that good, (I wish tho) My 2004 749 on the side stand leant so dramatically I could turn the bars easily i.e. virtually no weight on the wheel. In my garage I had a 2" thick piece of wood under the stand to keep it at a normal angle.

Investigation showed one of the 2 bracket fixing bolts loose where it is bolted to the engine. But the main problem is wear on the Alum stand where it reacts against the cast bracket for abutment. Picture shows this. I shall build it up with weld. I am also going to attach a 6mm thick extension on the base of the stand. (Tobe sure to be sure). Some of you may have read John Burrows (JHP Coventry) post last week in MCN about a relay behind the battery. So I thought I would look at mine whilst the fairing was off to do the stand. See attached picture. The wiring needs turning the opposite way to prevent water holding. but it needs plenty of vaseline and placing inside the finger of a rubber glove. with the bottom cable tied in the downward position. Hope this is of some help to someone.
Phil

Thanks for that Brian but it is only a 5 minute job for me to weld it and the rest of the stand is fine. Appreciate the offer anyway

I have decided not to weld it as it will anneal the area somewhat & lead to more problems. So I milled a 11mm by 3mm deep recess and screwed a 3mm thick piece of stainless into place using a 4mm countersunk screw. Should last the bike out now. Will post a pic when I get home tonight. Suppose I ought to do some work for the company now.

Here are the mods to the stand. I feel this will be a common problem with this stand so This mod should solve it for good.

Nice job indeed! I've been wondering for a while if my bike is leaning further than it used to. I'd better investigate!

Nice post Ghost. 8)
