Welcome to the site 749s !
If possible, will you try to document any work you do to help the ham-fisted among us?
Cheers!

I bought my 749 a month ago, and since i spend 2-3 hours on e-bay to buy bits and pieces to make her perfect. I got so far:
rear carbon hugger
open clutch cover
clear rear indicators and led rear light
matching yellow corse helmet
I 'm after a termignoni system now, but no luck so far.
Would be good to meet 749 owners in the London area.

Here is a link for a cheap system on your Duke Bud. I think Deako did it for about £250 ish.
Look at the bottom of the page as it has photo's of the rear can.
Jim. PS. Like the trim on the wheels.

Hi ,
2 weeks ago I bought a brand new Red 749. this is my first Ducati superbike experience. its nice and like what I expected from this bike not comfortable, good brakes good handling but the point is that heat is coming from my legs to arse and inside of the city this heat makes me so uncomfortable that I can not concentrate riding because it gives such a bad pain .is it normal do you live the same experience inside of the city. the heat is coming from thae open side of engine and by the aid of wind it crash to my feets and ass. can we do something to prevent our legs from this heat

Welcome Borgo, nice bike.
As far as I'm aware, the only solution is to keep moving! Might be an idea not to scream the arse off it, erm, that's about it I'm afraid!

Hello 749ers. Had my 06 749 for a week now and i can continue the teething/comfort thread. I've done 300 miles over the week and untill today (60 miles) my back has been killing me, I think i'm just building up the muscles i need to ride it after two years of having my lard-arse beer belly supported by the tank of my 748! The 749 just feels so long and low in comparison. Also i'm having a load of trouble with the bike cutting out and stalling. I went for a ride with the old man today and he reckoned he could smell petrol behind me, running a bit rich? Also i'm only getting 75 miles before the fuel light comes on, is this normal or just a running in thing? I'm only using 6000 revs, does it go down to 50 miles when you have 10000 to play with?!?!? I've had it back to the dealer and had it re-set up, but 100 miles later it's playing up again. I'd be happy for any one else to share their running in experiences and put my mind at ease but as i did 12000 miles without a cough on my monster that i bought brand new, i find it playing up disturbing.
But on a happier note the bike is awesome. Cornering confidence compared to the 748 is worlds apart, the thing is just on rails! I find i'm cornering faster and leaning further but with less effort, bring on the other 5000 (Hopefully trouble free) revs and lets party! I've never yet had Knee/Tarmac Intercourse (While still on the bike anyway, the ladies dig scars i'm told.) but it's only a matter of time i think!

Hi all newbie here,
fancied a Duc for a while so have finally gone and bought one. its an '05 model 749 in red around 18 months old now but the previous owner has only done 270 miles on it from new (I did 400 miles on it the day I picked it up!) therefore the service schedule is a little out of sync, love the bike although it was a bit of a culture shock when moving from a Kwak 750.
I've decided to log in and register and say hello to everyone.
Regards Paul

Hi Paul and welcome. My story is similar to yours - picked up a nearly new 749 dark with around 200 miles on it in January having had a valve drop into the engine of my beloved old ZX7R. The Duke is going in for its 6000 mile service on Monday and I have really enjoyed (almost) every one of those miles. Its different and it took a bit of time to get used to. I have found this to be a very friendly and helpful forum - there is always someone to help with a query (like why my cooling fan was stuck on or where to get an axle stand).

Hi Freefall, I hate to say it but I kept my 7r just in case the Duc was'nt for me. I took it out for a run last week as it has'nt moved for a month and I must say I'm not impressed, still a nice bike though. (had ZXRs for years)
On a positive note, I'm glad I went for the Ducati now, just hope it proves to be as reliable as the Kawasaki was (it goes next week)
Shame about the dropped valve by the way, are you keeping the 7r or committing to Ducati?

Baggers - I e-bayed the ZX7 :-( I had it from new, P reg, 60 000+ miles. However, that was the past. My 749 is great but I am also a bit worried about reliability, especially as mine sits outside and the winter is coming.

6.30 this morning, freezing cold (frost on the car windscreen), got to go to work (30 miles). Defrost the windscreen and drive in? Nah! Road surface dry so get on the bike. Sun just coming up, what a blast. Got to work with cold fingers but a big smile.
Why am telling you this - dunno, but I bet you all kow what I mean. Glad I didnt take the bike off the road for the winter.
