Ducati 749 0wners and Experience?

OK i've just (the weekend just gone) purchased by 2nd Duke, a 2006 749s Mono in black. After having a 748 a couple of years back, I moved onto ar R1 and recently a 2008 R6. Well the R6 lasted 3 months before it got sold and replaced by the duke.

I've only covered about 100 miles on it so far, covering both a blast around the country lanes and a couple of days commuting into London. So far so good, no complaints at all.

The 749s seems way better powered, geared and handled than the 748, i'm loving the grunt compared to the R6. Once thing of note is the bike ALWAYS seems to be travelling quicker than the mind is telling me, better watch out......

The bike is calling out for some more noise, so i've just ordered another standard system which will be cored with new internals to sound like the termi's but at a fraction of the cost........can't wait.

Well i've now finally fitted my cored standard exhaust so it's now fully de-catted, plus ive fitted a termi carbon cover - the bike now sounds absolutely amazing, im not sure if it's quicker (Maybe the placebo effect) but smiles per mile have increased massively. I also found that the reach to the levers was too great due to my small hands, so ive also fitted some CRG shorties - wow what a difference!

My previous bikes were Gilera Cogua( i was 17), CB500, YZF r6, Ducati 748 (side stand fell off on M4 but still loved her), CBR 929rr (boring), ZX10r 06 (Bloody fantastic), Speed Triple 06 which was fun and now presently a 749 BP red with Termi system (did have a race ECU but failed 1 week into ownership) mono rear seat and light weight race aluminum rear subframe.

Love this bike handles like a sports bike should looks awesome (although sometimes find myself looking at reflections in windows dangerous)

I've had her for a couple of year's now, having bought her from Ducati Manchester when she was 18months old.

The bike is basically standard with the exception of a few cosmetic changes:- JHP carbon hugger, clear indicator lenses (e-moto), carbon tail tidy (Ducati Performance- not shown in pic), and fairing bolts changed to black (not shown in pic).

The 749 was my first bike - I'd been meaning to take my test for ages and a trip to the Duc dealer in Coventry finally spurred me into action to get my licence and get the 749.

At the time I really wanted a 748 but having looked at 20 examples I couldn't find one that was in the sort of condition I was after . The 749 was a sensible choice as firstly there were a number available at the time and secondly I could get a nearly new one in 'nearly new' condition.

To be honest I don't regret missing out on the 748 - in fact the 749 style has grown on me more and more .

The only mechanical issues I've had was it cutting out on the go (no stalling when coming to rest) - this turned out to be due to a rusty fuel tank that Duc Coventry sorted out for me under warranty . That's about it really - just wanted to introduce myself / my bike.

One thing I do like about the later shape 749's: I'm not bothered about the nose-cone (in fact I think I prefer the early style), I'm not bothered about the swinging arm, but I really do like the red frame!

Hi guys

I have read every review about the 749 and in my shear lack of holding back for something I have always wanted I forked out the dosh and bought a 2004 yellow 749s which was in immaculate condish with only 9400km's on the clock with all services done up to that point and before the sale to me. Unfortunately I couldn't check it myself so my old man did and he didn't disagree. I have only ridden mostly dirt, still have my TE450 Husqy and a few road bikes but only on my Learners which expire in June2009 so I wanted to have a bike worthy enough to ride on when I get home. From the sounds of it there are no threads which mention the bike isn't everything it's meant to be and that is reassuring. I have already made contact with the duke club of Adelaide so I am dead keen to go for ride with the club and by then I should have my Zard system fitted to combat the lack of noise which I have read about in some threads. I will post a thread about the Zard after I get the chance to see my bike in a couple of months maybe xmas.

My faith has been severly dented. It doesn't help that this is not the first time I've heard of this happening.

Reliability record takes a knock!
