Ducati 749 0wners and Experience?

Rather than dig through everyone's member profile to find out who the 749 owners are, I'm asking! A lot of the technical knowledge on the site will be generally useful but obviously some things will be bike specific.

So, what I'm after is just your specific model & year and what your experience of fettling with bikes is. I'll kick it off in the next post.

If hope you think this is is a useful idea!

Bike - 2006 749BP

Fettling - Well, not hugely experienced but I've always been inclined to take things to bits to see how they work. I was happy enough to have a dig in & around the carbs / engine / brakes of my previous bike (SV650S) and am looking forward to doing the same with this one, in spite of the manual telling me to get my chain adjusted by a qualified mechanic!

My good intentions for 2006 include photographing & documenting anything I do with the bike, even seemingly simple tasks, just in case anyone else is less confident. I always found these walkthroughs very useful in the past.

Anyway, that's about it, please do add your own info!

Cheers all.

Bike: 749 in the sunny co

Hi mate

749 Yellow 04 bip
3,100 miles bought as a demo model from DLS

Done nothing myself, but have had the fuel pump relay switch r
e-sited as water was getting and shorting it out causing the pump to run even with engine switched off!

Had a custom throttle job fitted by Pro Twins. Haven't had a look to see how it works but as only one cable comes from the twist grip I suspect it links to a straddle. The result is a much lighter and smoother response. Release it and it closes much quicker.

Hi all

Bike: 2005 749bp red

Experience: Not afraid to get muck under my fingernails and i will always try to fix things myself (even when there not broken) rather than pay somebody else to do it. Actually took C&G motorcycling and servicing pt1 +2
a few years ago at college, which was good experience and worth the money just for the use of the facilities.Usually do all my own servicing but this is my first Ducati, so its all new to me at the moment

I have a 2004 749 Biposto. I have done most of the mods myself. I am not sure if we are listing, but here they are:

Cored-out stock exhaust
Custom dyno tune (100 rwhp)
Carbon
-rear exhaust guard
-side exhaust guard
-tank pad
-air runners
-key pad guard
Open clutch cover (Metal)
2005 999r Marchesini Forged Wheels
Tinted windscreen
Lightech gas cap
STM Frame Plugs

Spring of 2006
-I am having a custom made exhaust fabricated for the bike. I will be having my muffler re-cored.

Fall of 2006
-100mm big bore kit (920 cc)

With the big bore kit and the custom exhaust, The shop has seen BIG gains on several 749's. They did the modification to an 05 749s....They made 137 rwhp!!!! I can't wait!!!!

I don't have one picture of the bike. It is actually in my mother's family room as I write this (winter storage). I will take a couple of pics in the next day or two and post them on the site.

hi. I believe im am reletivly lucky to own my machine for my age. Im just 18 a couple of months ago and own a ducati 749 05.
I have already purchased a full termi exhuast system, front ohlins front forks and a ohlins rear shock absorber, and am awaiting my magnesium alternator and clutch side casing parts to arrive.

I have 2 other bikes a small honda cbr400 nc29, and a gsx-r750 srad both of these bike dnt come anywhere close to the ducati.

The gixer does have better top end but its wide and bulky and heavier it only wants to perform at highs revs where as my 749 as all is light quite petite and always has enough torque to perform in any gear whatever speed your doing.

I would fully recommend to anyone that does not have a full system exhaust to purchase one, it only increases your bhp slightly but you can feel the difference and the sound is alot better than the new EU restrictions. Hope this may help some people
