i use a hyde mallet, it wont effect the threads then,

once you have then got it as far as you can, hold the wheel level and you will be able to get an allenkey hooked in to just pulli t out!

Front wheel removal

Does it matter which way it come outs?

The one side has a thread for the spindle nut can I do it that way or does it have to be done from a certain side?

Cheers

ok but you need to make sure the wheel is held level whilst trying to remove it! if not the spindel sits at an angle and wont move easily! it just loks in!

when you refit it, use some Hi Temp grease on it

Thread resurrected!

Like duke749, I have a mudguard replacement job to do. I've had the one bit I hadn't got the facility to do, done for me (rivetting the new brake hose clip on), so I'm good to go.

But about spindle removal: I've got a hide mallet, as ollie mentioned upthread, but can you really get away without using a drift of some kind?

OK, I've had the wheel off and now it's back in again, complete with old mudguard (see mudguard thread).

Just need a bit of reassurance here!

The wheel doesn't seem to spin quite a freely as it did before, and I just want to be doubly sure. On the LHS of the bike, there's a flanged spacer (replacing the old speedo drive, presumably). Now, one flange is thicker than the other. Does the thicker flange go on the outside or the inside? I've looked at the picture in the workshop manual, but you can't really tell from that. To be honest, looking at it, I can't see why it would make any difference, or, at least, why it couldn't have been made symmetrical, but there you go.

TIA.

If I remember correctly, the thicker bit goes on the wheel side because thats what the seal sits on. Give it a good clean before you put it in then lightly smear it with grease.

Thanks. That's the way I've got it, but I just wanted to be sure.
