Cool 749S sub frame

Anyone had a 749S rear sub frame replaced out of warranty by Ducati UK when the exhaust/sub frame bracket welds break? Mine just has.

Cheers
Geoff

No!

What would make the weld fail as there is little stress placed on it ?

Hi Geoff,

This is quite a common thing with the Mono rear subframe, specially the early 'plain alloy' versions....

Like Blackie has mentioned the standard rear tail can is ultra heavy and the plate at the rear of the Mono subframe is quite thin and the two help form stress fractures along the welds, thus causing the plate to eventually break away......

If your bike is still in warrenty then that would be the first line to follow, otherwise I would take it to a local established metal fabricator for them to re-weld a new plate and strengthen the joins......this will only cost around £25-£30 for a cash in hand job...certainly a lot cheaper than going to the extent of purchasing another secondhand subframe.....

Ps.....

Message to all 749/999 owners.....

Geoff has raised a good point here so it would be worth checking the plate at the rear of your Mono subframe for any evidence of stress/fractures..........

Exclamation Sub Frame

Hi XP

I've been in touch with Ducati UK yesterday and even though its out of warranty they are going to replace it. No quibbles, just had to send them a pic. Suprised its not a recall issue as it now seems to be quite a problem!

Cheers

Hi Geoff,

just a thought but if you get to keep the cracked one would you want to sell it?...
i could put it to good use if its just a case of an easy repair, please PM me if interested.

Cheers
