New seat required!
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a new seat for my 848 as have just bought some new leather and seem to really slide around, especially into the tank under braking. Any suggestions?

Do you mean the neoprene is worse? Who told you that. Almost everyone on here has swapped original out.

I have an alcantara seat on one of my bikes, that doesn't work either with leathers on.

Alcantara looks good but is no grippier (in fact worse than the standard vinyl with leathers).
The Sgt seat is slightly better but the neoprene is defo the grippiest (doesn't wear well though).

Not the prettiest option but what about some Stomp Grip, a third of the price and wont wear out like a neoprene seat? Just a thought.....

Sargent seat is/was the best one ive tried TBH, the neoprenes dont last long at all and for £100+ i bet you'd need one a year if not more.
Had my original seat re-upholstered and covered for a pressie off the mrs which granted was better than the original but didnt stop me sliding around (suade/Alcantara covering)
At least the sargent is moulded differently and keeps you far more planted, it almost dips in a tad in the middle and rises where your nuts meet the tank so you have to be going some to crush the family jewels Comfy on long runs too as its taken me to france & germany without a numb ass

Once you got the neoprene seat from DP you can buy new neoprene top covers for it off the bay which cost around 10-15 notes, you just glue them onto the frame.
Mine last two years and four track days, but I tend to lift rather than drag across the seat when changing trajectory... (and I sold it on here to a happy new owner when i shifted the bike standard)
Definitely a track day seat not a touring seat like the sargent etc.
Alternatively Oxford do a grippy seat cover for £10 which you can cut to shape and size then just put over your standard seat, it too is made of a neoprene type mesh material....

I bought the DP seat for mine last year but it's not neoprene. It took an age to arrive at the dealer as Ducati were apparently changing the design. It's firmer foam inside, and the cover is a synthetic, fuzzy kind of finish. That and some stomp grip are the two best investments I have made for the bike.

I have a luimoto seat on my blade (the repsol cover), it has some of that material on it but only a small amount at the front so don't know if it works well as a cover but the luimoto seat is 100% nice, mind you I guess it depends how well you fit the cover, I gave mine to a mate and his mate works in upholstery, I have done many before but did not have the b@lls to do this one..he did a top job. I have to say I have the DP seat and for me it works very well, much better but I guess it depends on the leathers you ware. Don't know how long it will last though..:S
Saying all that the DP seat is a pain, it gets wet, wares out in no time, etc etc, dont know why I got it really?? I'd have that luimoto one..

For me the seat and the Stomp Grips do different jobs. In my mind, the Stomp grips are grip for your outside leg on the tank as you hang off the bike.
My own personal solution (aided by the neoprene seat, but not a requirement) is to start to move across the bike before I start braking (move my butt across the seat so I have half a cheek off the seat on what will be the inside of the upcoming bend), then I use the inside of my thigh against the tank to support me during braking. It seems to require a lot less effort than trying to clamp the tank with both legs, and has the advantage of getting you in the right position for the important bit after the braking.

That does not sound like the Neoprene Race seat. In fact, I just went on Ducati.com and the only one they have listed now has the following description: New racing seat with anti-slip, Neoprene look fabric cover. The one I have, which is still good after 7,000 miles, definitely does not have a cover.

Yes, they have in fact stopped making the nice neoprene seats as everyone complained apparently that they got all torn up.......
So, now replaced with that new alacantra type one - which is daft as it's just a regular seat with a loosely fitted cover - and I say loose - as it moves and stretches. Nothing like a good replacement IMO.
The neoprene seats are excellent for grip and I find them damn comfy. Luckily, my dealer still has an old neoprene one for my new trusty steed.....
When I say excellent - I do of course mean excellent for grip. They are on the other hand rubbish at the following:
1. staying in one piece. They rip up around the edges, mounting holes etc
2. staying dry - you only have to come back to your bike after two mins of it being in the rain, to find it so sodden you can press your hand into it and make water run down the side of the bike! neoprene like a wet-suit then!
3. staying clean - don't spill anything on it....
Those new ones look nicer though, but don't work as well.
