Hi Rich
How's the bike & how was the island? Just got the wheels back today However not had the time to finish the bike.... Bugger Hoping to spark the Beast into life this weekend (but I am duty) Get it run in then stuck on the dyno to set the carbs up (Then we can play top trumps). Seems to be taking an age just want to ride the bike (I am enjoying building the bike can't help it )
Just had the motor done to a similar spec as yours Rich wallet still in pain & now Im picking a damaged ST3 up on monday, Madness!. (This Superlight will never be finished. Im gonna try the motor in the frame then drop the engine with Chris to do the ST3 and stick it in the Superlight over the winter 110BHP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Superlight OHHHH Yeh!!!) Probably end in tears But gotta try. Then pick up a 600 monster and stick the 944 engine in. All sounds a bit mad but the ST3 came up at theright price and the 944 motor won't goto waste.
Hope your bikes going well take it easy dude.
Cheers Pablo

Hey Pablo,
Good to hear you are making progress!! ST3 engine - tell me more - isn't it liquid cooled... I don't think the modifying will ever end
Island was fantastic, bike behaved perfectly and surprised a lot of folks, my brother especially on his TL1000R who didn't know "wheezy old Italian bikes" could overtake him up the moutain mile at an enthusiastic pace. Or the guy on the GSXR750 that came past me on the mountain so I just acclerated and sat on his tail - he was looking in his mirrors in disbelief so much that he started missing his lines and then I got him My brother has started looking for a Superlight now... another convert
Cheers
Rich

She lives!!
Hi Rich
Gonna have to get across to the island next year. Got the engine in the frame and managed to spark it in to life yesterday!!! Only ran it for 10 minutes then changed the oil (pain in the bum because my headers cover the sump plug) So now I can tie wrap the electrics to death (Battery is on the way out so gonna get an Odessey) Just need to finish the smaller bits n bobs (the ones that take the most time) Then get to ride the bike (before the next rebuild.
Hope to get a damaged ST3 next month reckon the motor will fit in the frame with out to much trouble. Then get Chris to work his magic (110BHP Superlight ) Either mount the rad above the front cylinder and cooler in the nose cone but this is a winter project need to get the bike running as she is...... the mods will never stop......

Hey Pablo,
Sounds like it is coming together - good effort! ST3 motor - hmm, I am thinking maybe an 1100 engine from a Hyper, big bore kit, valves and cams plus Chris = 111bhp - I'll see you and raise you Got to keep true to the air-cooled 2V heritage...
Cheers
Rich

Right Pablo and Rich, my ignorance is just going to have to be shown at long last and no doubt get a few sniggers going...but... what is an ST3? where in the grand scheme of things does it differ from our SS carby motors? (got to admit, even after being on an SS since 2000 that i know very little of the ins and outs of other dukes apart from mundane things like communal parts etc etc).. I'm very intrigued and, well, just keep us posted.. amazing the things you can learn here
Cheers
Mark

I've always understood the ST to be a Sports Tourer but other than that, I know little more than you do

Mark,
The ST3 is basically the same motor as ours, air cooled but with a 3 valve head I don't know bhp figures for them but they are a sound motor, there may be a few other differences but i'm sure Pablo will fill us in.
A guy who came with us to Italy last week had an ST3 and it was very quick Sounds like it's a good step up from what we've all been doing.

Howdo!
Just a bit of an insite into my madness and the ST3 saga. The ST3 is stuck in the middle of the ST2 and ST4 all of which are from the touring side of the ducati family. The number I believe representing number of valves. The ST3 engine runs two inlet valves (34mm I think and a single 45mm exhaust which I might be able to mate my Silmotor exhaust to) is water cooled and has 50mm throttle bodies and 40mm headers. I wanted one of these engines for a while and they are like rocking horse poo!. The size of the heads are similar to the DS. I hope I can fit a small radiator above the front cylinder and the oil cooler in the headlight fairing. Use pod filters maybe to over come the air box. Well thats me thinking.
A standard ST3 makes about 100bhp with end cans/fueling 105bhp n 70lb of torque. With a bit of gas flowing maybe 110bhp its just to much of a temptation for me not to try .
Cheers Pablo

Will send you some pics of the yellow peril. She's looking good. Would have had been together earlier but lack of cash has been the problema. Still got the standard coils which I will probably change and fit iridium plugs. Bike seems a lot smoother even at stand still. F$%Ģing battery is on its way out so a Odessey is inbound strength 10!!
Also waiting on some Ti nuts n bolts from Pro-Clown. Will hopefully pick the ST3 up in a few weeks and pay you a visit over the winter see what we can get out of this motor? Oooohh me Superlight (would have been cheaper to have a Suzuki Thou sorry shouldn't swear. Not a patch on a duke for smiles ) reckon a 115Bhp should see 165mph HHHHAAA! Just day dreaming again............Oh hello Jessica Alba.....
take it easy dude.
Cheers Pablo
