Charge light on

Hope this is not the shape of things to come with the new bike, when I started up yesterday the charge light stayed on. I removed the battery and checked the two yellow wires, and all seemed well they had large bullet type connectors with no sign of overheat or corrosion. I cleaned them anyway along with all connections to the reg/rec.
I put it all back together and started up. Put meter across the battery and was getting 13.1V rising to about 14.3V at about 4K so appears to be charging. Put the lights on and the voltage dropped to 12.8V rising to 13.9V at 4K
Is this a sign of impending reg/rec failure.

Does your light not say 'Gen' under it - its a red light iirc and yes thats what mine did. If it stays on with engine running then you need a new regulator rectifier, about £70 i think, ours are different from bip ones as it has 3 leads from it and different cooling fins (which interchange). Just make sure they order the one specific to our model! I was sent wrong one first time - even tho they were told!

Just picked up my new reg/reg from the post office, great service by Electrex.
Thats my job for tonight.
Noticed that unit is designed to connect straight onto battery instead of plug into the loom. What have others done with regard to the redundant plug and the possible ingress of water etc??

When I replaced the one on the 900ss with an Electrex I connected the earth back to the battery but connected the red +ve wire to the 30A fuse as the original to give some degree of protection should the regulator fail. The previous OEM regulator shorted out internally and flattened the battery big style, damn near set the bike on fire if I hadn't disconnected it quickly. Also, in the event of inadvertantly connecting the battery the wrong way round the 30A fuse will blow and protect the regulator.
