oil leak on 916/955

My new to me 955 sp is leaking oil on the left side. It is not the clutch slave cylinder, but there is oil all over that vacinity after a short ride. I re-sealed the tach pick up also. It looks like it coould be coming out from the timing case window. Any ideas or experience here?

Had similar thing, mine was just a little leak, spoke to Mr R he advised it was either my cliutch pushrod o rings or the gearbox output shaft seal.

I changed my pushrod o rings and it was fine! hope your fix is as simple!!

Jimmy,

Thanks for responding. I should have said in my first post, the clutch cylinder and that area is dry, as is the countershaft. I feel like an idiot because there is oil all around that area, and mostly around the window and down-ward from there. And the outside of the case around the clutch cylinder IS wet with oil. When I pulled off the clutch cylinder the area around it, including the engine side was dry. I pulled off the countershaft cover, and no fresh oil there either. I wish that was it, as you say, an easy fix.

At first I thought the veritcal cylinder base was leaking, but that's dry. I think the air turbulence was slinging oil around enough to get oil in the vicinity.

Oil Leak

have a look at the front where the alternator wires come out through the gland type fitting
and has the outer end plate got a o-ring fitted the 2x countersunk allen bolts the
black jhp plate. above the blue eng plug for alternator fitting.
or the blank plug just by the window has a aluminium washer on it ?

Prolonged standup wheelies can result in oil in the airbox (I suppose more civil activities could too). Pop the tank off and check for oil pooled in the front/bottom of the airbox.

oil leak

Prolonged stand up wheelies....wish I could. Power lifts a foot or so in second as far as I get.

No oil in the air box though. I think the leak is/was at one of the timing case screws. Cleaned it all off, went for a ride, and oil dribbling from the screw vicinity. Cleaned it again, and the crevice at the bottom of the screw hole was getting damp. So I cleaned it all out squirting alcohol into the screw hole. (Note one does not light up while doing this!). Resealed the screw with hi-temp silicone. Test ride to follow. I just may have gotten off easily here. I also checked the ignition lead wire exits, so far they are dry.

Thanks for the ideas.
