Which oil do you use?

The old chestnut - did a search but didn't return anything

What is the oil of choice to use in the 996BP engine?

My dealer used 10w40 grade at the last service but not sure which manufacturer...want to do another change myself.

Oil Of Choice

My Oil of choice is Rock Oil Synthesis 4 Racing (S4R), its a 15/50W and give the rockers a good sticky coating of oil to help with the dreaded 90sec dry spell.

I've always used Shell Advanced Ultra fully synthetic on My 996 as it was the oil reccomended by Ducati,

However I suppose any good fully synth oil will do the job

15/50w was recommended to me, even though Ducati 'plug' 10/40w ~ better consistency and doesn't drain out like dishwater after a few 1000's miles. Apparently the fully synthetic oil is fine, but you need to change it more often. If your bikes under warranty, then probably best using what’s recommended, if not, then take advice from independent experts.

I’m sure everyone has their own preferences, but at the end of the day, if it’s changed regularly, then that’s the secret to protecting your engine.

Has anyone used Active8 ~ saw some great tests at the NEC? A bit like Slick50 (or whatever it’s called), but apparently it’s better.

Red face

Should have put 20W-50 ~ thicker, better consistency and coats the larger moving parts far better than the 'lighter' oils.
