Ducati 996R - From the first time I saw it!
Starting off I would juts like to say thank you to all of your guys support. This is a great site. Full of very useful information and great people and stories.
So on with the tale. First off I want to start by saying that from the first time seeing a ducati I was in love with them. There styling and sound just scream performance and character.
Performance obviously, just by looking at them you can instantly tell what kind of bike it is. I don’t think many other bikes can do that as easily. Ducati’s are unmistaken. From there sound to there styling.

Character because, every time I look at a ducati it seems as though it has a soul. So much is going on when you look at these bikes. Never owning one and now owning one I take an extreme pride in it. It is the most exotic thing I’ve ever ridden. The smell, sound and feel is just out of this world. From the moment I got on it I was nervous as hell. As well I should be. I think that if you ride one of these bikes and it does not scare you a little bit there is something wrong. Taking off from the dealer was so rewarding. I had wanted a 996r for so long and now I had gotten it, I never wanted to get off. Never have ridden a ducati and can tell you that even with its low points. ( how can there be any right). It is still the best bike I’ve ever ridden. The amount of torque that is on board is unbelievable. It forced a smile upon my face. It was all that I’ve have read about and more. Words could never explain the first time on a ducati. It is so much fun and exhilarating.
I couldn’t wait to get it on the road and be able to just ride and forget about everything and just cruz.
The handling is unbelievable. It just keeps asking for more. Making me feel that much more uncomfortable. It pushed me more than I felt comfortable pushing it. WOW. Leaning into corners and slightly pulling the throttle was amazing the power delivery is so instant. Again making me a little uncomfortable. But wanting more.
The ride was actually more comfortable than I thought it would be. I road 300 miles and didn’t want to get off. Maybe that’s because it was the first time. But I think it’ll be that way all the time. Firm riding but I’ve ridden rigid harleys so this was some what nice. Firm seat let you feel everything, but then kept me in touch with the bike letting me know what was going on. I like that in a bike, makes you feel part of the machine.
The power is a different type to me. I’ve been on a lot of jap bikes that are top end pullers but nothing like this. Enough torque to move mountains. Very cool feeling. My Harley is torquey but it makes my Harley feel like a kiss on the cheek, compared to a swift kick in the balls this thing will give!
Well I must go and stare at my newly acquired beast. And ramble to the miss about how much I love it.

What RPM did you take it to ?
I have a NEW motor in mine, the shop said not to take it over 5500 RPMbut I read the manual and it said that you could take it to 7000 RPM
Have fun dude, looked at the pics, damn nice, you could see that it looked new, BUT that exhust GUARD , that was UGLY good that you are changing it
we need to start a 996R section

Keep it at 5500 just now. If one of you is wrong.......which one will do damage?

Those first few rides just make you grin.....
Riding a Ducati, you either love it or hate it! However like you Ducky996R, from the first ride I was hooked! A great write-up mate, just such a shame you can't meet with us in the summer! You've just got to emmergrate to the UK. The weather's crap and finding a decent meal is pretty hard to find, but there are some great roads out there to be discovered and a Sunday morning greasy fry-up is a unique UK tradition best enjoyed in biking company ---- Ducatisti company!

The site's now okay, however the reason this post is/was having problems loading was because you images were HUGE! I've reduced their size to just 500px wide now this post should load fine from now on.
