Again, thanks to all who contributed and helped out.

Chris, you will not believe how smooth that bike is now with that balanced crank in there. I would go so far as to say it idles smoother than my 999. I cant wait to take it out for a test ride and feel what it does (I know, it is a new engine and I have to take it easy the first thousand kilos. )

My darling wife came home from work and I started the bike up for her as a surprise. I think she is more relieved than me that the bike turned out OK so far.
It is at that point that I turned to her and said "I am bored already, what is the next project?" If I am lucky she may talk to me again somewhere in the middle of next week

Dont treat it to gently The bores were honed and you added new rings. It still has the same case bearings so it can be fully run in in twenty minutes.

Go for a gentle ride for ten minutes making sure there is not anything untoward with the engine like overheating or leeks. Then wide open throttle to 7000 rpm and let the bike rev itself back down to 2000rpm again by itself and re-peat about twenty times using third gear. Then wide open till 10.000 a few times . Go home and change the oil (job will be done)

Bike: 999R / 998 Bayliss

During the week I finsihed off all those little cosmetic things that still needed doing. Then I balanced the cylinders, reset the TPS, set the CO at 4% and went for gentle rides around the neighbourhood. All looking good.

This morning it was off to Starbucks to meet up with the rest of the riders who are crazy enough to endure 37 Deg C temperatures at 5h30 in the morning.

Had an absolute blast doing the desert back roads around the outskirts of the city, even got to see a couple of camels along the way. The bike behaved beautifully. Planted, keeps to the intended line and goes like the clappers with not a single problem rearing its head. That was until I got back.

It would appear that the filter screen dome plug touched one too many sleeping policemen on route and either cracked or scraped through. This plug is now dripping oil slowly. If that is the worst of my worries, then I am quite happy thank you very much. Time do drop the oil now and order a replacement plug.

On the 200 km ride, the bike kept up with a 1098S and a CBR in first, second and third gear with no problems. It was only when we hit 4th gear onwards that they started to leave me behind.

The bigbrother 1098R has not had its first service yet so the owner was taking it very slowly. Even at the pace he was doing that bike is blisteringly fast.

Two pics of the morning ride and the bike finally back on the road.

Again, thank you to all who contributed and words of encouragement along the way. A very big thank you indeed.

News??? Not much to tell really.

Bike has done 2000 km through the summer and I will be doing a major strip and check towards the end of the month. In two weeks there is a track day and the "baby" will see a few laps around the Losail circuit before our winter starts. (Lots of dust which makes riding very interesting and slippery around here.)
The bike is behaving like a dream and I have finally managed to sort out the rear brake issue (it now works, finally!)

The only thing I have not done is to degree the cams to the specs that Chris gave me. I dont have the tools, the bike is running very well on the standard settings and it will have to wait until both the bike and myself end up back in Australia in a few years time.

Until then I am just enjoying the ride
