'04 Ducati 999 Engine Management Light?

Just picked up an 04 999 CHEAP!
The reason why it was cheap is that the person i bought it off had put a switch on the speedo to turn it off and stop clocking up miles.(why would u mess with ducati wiring)
He said whenever he turned it off the engine management light came on until he flicked it back on again.
The last time he rode it it went in to safety get you home mode and then sold it to me.(he assumes)
Is there a simple way of getting it back to normal?
I looked at the plugs and it looks like its only firing on the back cyclinder anyone got any ideas on whats wrong?

Coil maybe

try swaping the leads over and see if the other cylinder stops firing on the front cylinder and fires on the back but i know the coils have a tendancy of going tits up.

Hope you get it going ready for some sunshine

Did what u said with the coil swapping it does now fire on the front so i've got a new coil coming from moto rapido.
Will the tampered wiring have had anything to do with the coil going down i know you say it's a common fault, but is'nt the speedo also run through that cylinder.

All the problem was was a broken wire on the plug that clips onto the coil took some finding though £4500 well spent

by the way the EOBD light on mine has a life of it's own. if you start the bike and the starter doesn't catch, than have another try it sometimes comes on - bike runs OK. if you turn the ignition off and on for 3 seconds - still stays on. wait 5 seconds - it doesn't. No idea what's going on but completly harmless - anyone else had this?
