Really feel sorry for you, I know how you must feel. When you take a pride in something and it this happens you must feel sick.

Really sorry to hear about your accident. I dropped my 06R last year, really small off & did 3K
just on cosmetic bits. The chances of really good carbon bits on ebay is zilch. Take the insurance and get new bits if it's repairable, I'm insured with Ducati insurance & they sorted it straight away. Protected no claims meant I've paid no more at renewal.
Your hoped for price is a bit high. Good luck with your claim.

ouch, glad to hear yopu are ok - there was a full (unpainted) carbon fairing on ebay a few days ago - think xp might have been selling it. It will be interesting what the insurance company decide to do if you go that route as though the damage is very expensive it mainly seems to be cosmetic rather than structural. Are there any 'friendly' bike mechanics near you that will let you claim on insurance but then let you source some of the cheaper easier to find parts yourself and split the difference.

Hi mate,

really sorry to hear about your off but glad you are ok. If it were me, and this is only personal opinion, i would not want a repaired bike. I am really fussy and even the smallest scratches annoy me. Even if it looked right i would still know it wasnt. If i was offered a payout i would probably take it providing it wasnt stupidly low.

Everyone is different though. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If it's just replaceable bits, fairing panels etc and foot rests and so long as the bits are genuine Ducati & not pattern carbon parts I don't see the problem. I wouldn't want a frame staightened or something major. Problem with the R's is that they are so hideously expensive to repair. I cringe when I go over recently re-chipped road. I'm not sure I'd ever buy another new one. Yes I would.

Sorry to hear the bad news. This is everyones worst nightmare (well nearly!).

If it were just cosmetic I would get it repaired. If the repair is not good enough you can refuse to accept it until it is. One route I went down with a previous "written off" car was to buy it back and repair it myself (it was cosmetic stuff which I already had some spares of anyway). It worked out something like this:

bought car for £3,000
Written off with repair cost of around £1,200 (bonnet/grille/bumper)
Write off Value £1800 (theives!!)
Bought back from insurer at around 9% (I think I paid about £144 - they just deducted it from the payout).
Fixed for the grand total of 2 hrs of my time (£0)
Sold 3 months later for £2000!! (Result).

Although this has the disadvantage of being a slower repair and the vehicle being listed as a class?? write off, you will get your bike back and maybe make a few quid. If you take before and after photos of the repair most people would not be put off of buying an insurance write off (if they can see the damage was not serious).

Ouch...sorry to hear that news...at least you are OK which is the main thing.

As for the bike...if there is structural damage i think that you should just take the money and find another toy...if they have already said that the price is £7000 just for parts i would say that it will be a payout anyway.

3X Motorcycles down in Dorset recently sold a 03 (iirc) one owner 999R Fila Rep with under 500 original miles for £8000...which was a bargain imho. A one owner 06 999R with 600 original miles went on Ebay last week for £9650...and a one owner 06 999R sold with 2,500 on the clock for a shade under £10,950 last week at a dealer.

I saw the Woods 2004 999R on the Bike Trader site last week. It was also on the MCN site and has been advertised for some time. Zero miles/Spotless. I think it was £12,900 though. Really sorry to hear about your spill. I did it myself 2 years back - Target fixation. The most important thing is that you are well.

Hi Dunc
Sorry to here about your bad luck i was going to take mine down to long marston airfield on sunday but changed my mind and took the van instead the roads are crap around here at the best of times now with a covering of salt wich seems to polish the road surface when the roads dry out .
I read on a forum that the carbon fibre body work was made for ducati by a company in the Banbury area i will see if i can find out any more information .
I put my 06 999r on piston heads last night due to business reasons i hope no body buys it

Cool

Folks,

What can I say?
Thanks to one and all for your best wishes and commiserations. If nowt else its nice to know there are people out there who understand my pain

Thanks also for your advice, which although varied certainly gave me food for thought.

I've reported to my insurers and although the loss adjuster hasn't visited as yet, my contact at the garage where she's being held reckons she's very likely a right off.

I'll know more in a few days.

Will keep you posted on developments.

Cheers again

Dunc

oh dear - gutting. Been there, breathed the ambulance gas and air.

Not sure I can add anything more than above but write off or not - keep her, mend her, ride her more.

UPDATE

Hi folks.

Its been an interesting week !
The insurance assessor attended the garage at which my bike is being held ( Robsom Racing in Shipston on Stour).

I get the impression the guy was going to write it off until he was told that there were only 200 made and only 14 in the UK. When Mike at Robsom Racing pointed that out to him he changed his mind and gave the go ahead for repairs.

The carbon Fila panels are being sent over from Bologna , with stock parts being sourced from JHP.

Having been re-assured my bike will be in perfect condition when I get her back, I'm now sleeping at lot easier at night. Roll on the NW200 in May !!!

Thanks one and all for you posts ..much appreciated.

Cheers

Dunc
