Just Checking - Tyres
Well amongst my list of things to spend on the bike in the next few weeks, realised i need some new tyres as well, i did a search and it was a while ago the last discussion on tyres for a T9 happened, so is the general concensus still with the Pirellis or is there a new tyre somewhere i should take a look at? Its all gonna be road riding with maybe 1 or 2 trackdays this year, with a jaunt to le mans and possibly assen this year too! Suggestions please?

Hi Stu I use the pirelli corsa on my 996 and find them a good all round choice , and hard wearing if you are doing the miles.

With SBK and Moto GP in town, some of the lads got talking to the tyre reps.
The verdict - Pirelli Super Corsa 2's for road holding and grip.
Some of the local guys here run them on their 1098's and they cant stop raving about them. Mostly road with some serious track time when they do go out.
I currently run Continentals ContiAttacks, wear is brilliant but the arse gets nervous in high speed corners compared to the SC2 I used to have on there. The Contis are outlasting them by hundreds of miles though.

I am about to replace the tyres on my 999 with Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's. I have used four sets of these on my R1 and they are fantastic as a road tyre and also good on track, maybe not quite as good as Pirelli Super Corsa's for track use but for mainly road riding the Michelins are superb.

Hmm really not sure what to go for, i have Metzeler Sportec M1s on at the moment, which have been great and have been the only ones i have had since i bought it, my last bike was on Bridgestone BT-020s (Triumph TT600) so have no other experiences to draw on, and everyone seems to have their own preference (Obviously)
I am wondering whether i should stick to the Metzelers? If the Michelins are more road-biased i would probably take them over a more track focused option, any idea where there are tyre test reviews for any litre bike, without having to buy magazine back issues?

Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs every time. I have been using them for both road and track for two years now.
Really good levels of grip and the rears last pretty well too on long slogs thanks to the hard compound in the centre band.
Just put a set on the 999R having had BT014s..at least I think they were. Its feels like a different bike.

Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's Can't praise them enough. Swopped from Bridgestone to Michelin last Dec. and they have transformed the experience. As I have mentioned elsewhere it could be me and my confidence levels or actual positive feedback from the tyres whilst riding. But it is a virtuous circle; positive feedback, improved confidence, sharper riding, improved feedback etc. etc.

When I changed from Diablo Corsas to Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's, admittedly on my R1, they transformed the bike, like wise a good friend of mine changed from Bridgestone BT-014's on his GSXR 1000 K5 to the michelins and he said it was like riding a different bike. The level of grip they afford is amazing. I now wouldn't use anything else on my bikes.

I've always run Corsa3 and can't fault them, but I did have a go on 2ct at the ring and I couldn't fault them either. Then I was fired for 2 laps on the back of a Gixer 1000 at a rate I could only dream of achieving and that was on 2ct also.
So my Corsa 3 is buggered from Mallory, I have just bought a 2ct today to go on. £97.

2 CT's are my recommendation. They warm up quick and grip well.

2CT'S Are pretty awesome. I am currently running one on the front with a sport on the back and am having excellent feedback, as soon as the sport is worn, i will get a 2CT for the back too. A mate has just fitted the new 5 compound Bridgestone BTO16 and can't stop raving about them. They are supposed to be the best around. I want some!

I am busy researching the difference between the Bridgestone 014/015/ 016 tyres.
The techie in the shop can only tell me they are all the same price and yes they have stock.....
I am looking for something that can do more straight miles than the Pirellies but offers better grip that the Conties.
We are very limited for choice when it comes to bike parts in this local market.

Found my answers after some searching later today
These tyres are all basically classed Hyper Sport tyres
Make sure you get the right one though. Some models are made specifically for certain types of bikes i.e. CBR / GSX. Nothing made for a Ducati though.
Not all tyres are created equal either.
Make sure you get the correct speed and load rating for your bike. (AT least a 73 load rating and a W speed rating. You may need a higher speed rating if you do serious high speed track days.
The 016 is not recommended for Ducs it would appear.... I stand to be corrected though
The best tyre would appear to be the BT 02 at the moment. Very grippy but offers miles in longevity. (Only problem is that tyre is not sold here.)
Cheers
