OE Tyres.
Hello folks,
I know this topic has been flogged to death but I'm still at that tyre crossroad come knackered tyresville. I bought a 999R in October 06 and it came shod with Michelin Power Race (medium). They say 'if it aint broke dont fix it' and I must say I've found these tyres excellent and have replaced them like for like up to date. I read in the MCN you should always change OE rubber brand once its worn. I don't go too daft on the road (too scary) and never venture out in the wet but I'm partial to the odd trackday when you can give it some welly.
My question is, am I missing out on some super duper rubber and should I change from the OE Power Race?
Cheers, Paul.

How good are you on a bike around a track?
Serious amateur that is within 15 seconds of the lap record, or are you a weekend warrior that is within 30 seconds of the lap record?
Or do you just enjoy going fast regardless of the times you post, it is just a nice place to speed with no cameras to worry about?
My personal choice - Pirelli Super Corsa. (I am a weekend warrior wannabe that is within 30 seconds off the lap record)
If you are numbe rone then it is slicks time, if you are number three then the tyres you have on at the moment is fine.
My 0.00002 cents worth (adjusted for inflation)

Just read through that twice, what a sound piece of advice.

Thanks SF, I'm a (fair weather) weekend warrior and not exactly Stoner like round the track nor Guy Martin on the road. I look upon trackdays as playtime and enjoy them immensley, I don't get too hung up about laptimes (which is just as well really cos they're probably ****e! Ha..) If me and my cherished bike are still in one piece at the end of the day then I'm buzzing. So the Power Race it is then. Again...
Roll on Cadwell, 19th.
Cheers, Paul

I've not used the Pilot Power Race myself, but I should imagine they're very grippy and don't last long!
You might want to try Pirelli Supercorsas if you're a fast track rider, or Pirelli Diablo Corsa IIIs for medium to fast track plus road use, or the Michelin equivelant, Pilot Power 2CTs for road and track use - more than most riders will need on a trackday and might last a little longer / cost a little less over the year!

Super Corsa's are the best tyre i've ever used.
TOTAL confidence & not too bad mileage.

2CT,S are awesome in my opinion, after a couple of laps around the IOMTT they had bubbled up on the edges and were very very grippy, (got my peg down) and were not square after riding up and back from liverpool to catch ferry

I'm probably a two and still find Michelin 2CTs more than enough. Have scraped a toe with them on track without any fear and they last really well.
Do I need slicks to go faster? Probably not at the moment, but it could be fun trying.
