Model Years

Hi All,

Have decided to buy a Duke as a replacement for my Benelli after it was written off by some idiot in a car who "didn't see" me (bright red bike with lights on!!, eye test anyone?).
Can anyone tell me what the chassis number was when the 999BIP went from 03 to 04 Model year as i am led to beleive there are a number of upgrades on the 04 MY bikes which improved them over the previous year.
Been offered a 54 plate which falls within my insurance payout figure (God love insurance assessors) but as it has upgraded fairings, suspension etc it is difficult to tell which model year it is.
Please help.
Thanks,
Tom

Nope....but it was the 05 model that had the upgrades. New swingarm, slightly wider nosecone with NO upper slots....that was it as far as looks went....

There is very little differance between the '03 999 bip and the '04.The giveaway is the light switch on the r/h bar.The '03 bike has one,...the '04 does'nt.The running light in the screen was also changed on the '04 bike from clear to smoked. As in previous replies, the big changes came in 2005.

Do the 03/pre overhaul bikes have a much more sloped nosecone aswell? In pictures, i'm sure it bends over (in profile) much more than on my 06 model.

I thought the 05 and after models also have red frame and black wheels and swing arm? Or were the wheels an option?

go for 05 red frame model. better electric's etc. Ducati last model bikes are usually the better ones.

i heard the 04's had the later black (hollow) swingarm, my fila previous owner was given magnesium head covers, and titanium everything else covers by Ducati, as a goodwill gesture, as one month after delivery they were supplied with a revised arm and he complained his bike was dated when delivered.

i like the solid early arm, and as people have told me so far, the fairing changes were to provide a little extra high speed stability during racing, so won't affect any road users. although some like the different looks, i like both.

I agree the red frame looks good and was looking for one because of that alone.
