Rear Header Breakage

I'm running a 2003 999s as a race bike with a Termi half system on it. Lately, I've been cracking the rear exhaust header right where the stub tube is welded onto the flange that attaches to the rear cylinder head.

I've carefully gone over the exhaust and subframe and all is seemingly OK.

I had two of these welded up by a local shop here in the states and got one race weekend out of one of them.

Anyone else run into this problem?

thx

Andrew

Yes check back through my threads I've had it happen 3 times on my 749

I have welded a re-enforcement plate over the bad area so will see how long that lasts as they want £113.00 for a new one.

Interesting, both of mine broke on the "other" side of the weld, further down the pipe from the cylinder head.

If they break again, I'll look into adding some tabs or other support to provide more support. Plus, I scored a set of header pipes off of ebay for a decent price so I'm covered.

cheers,

Andrew
