My Ducati 999 - Cutting out at traffic lights!
I have a 999 biposta (2003). I have had it S/h from a main dealer and just recently when standing at tickover for more than 30 -60 seconds (typically at trafffic lights) when the throttle is opened the engine stops (it restarts OK). It has only just started to do this.
Anybody had similar problems? what is the cure? does it need to go back to the dealer?
thanks
(sorry if this is an common question)

had the same problem on my bike (both before and after termi's being fitted) i have found that a small blip of throttle before pulling away cures the stalling but god knows why I would be as interested as stonedecay if anyone out there has a good answer/fix

cutting out at traffic lights
I know I've got a 749 but have had a similar problem. Usually when warm and waiting at traffic lights or junctions. Go to pull away and the bike dies. Starts ok.
Sorry don't have the answer!!

Hi,
New here but think this is one i can help with...
This may (but not for sure) be down to the ecu not being trimmed correctly, or the throttlebodies not balanced.
the 'shower' type injection has the injector above the butterfly so if the bike is over fueling at tickover then you get a build up of fuel on the back of the butterfly, so, when you gently open the throttle the fuel goes into the moto, this makes it way too rich and it dies.
can also be caused by the TPS not being reset.
Any dealer with the Ducati diagnostic system and a realtime gas analyser can sort this out for you in 30mins to an hour (depending of what needs resetting)
Good luck.

MY 999s used to stall as I came to a stop or let the throttle off and it turned out to be a cracked coil...just a thought

I have mentioned this before. I had this stalling, farting and stuttering problem with my Duke but it only ever did this every 4-6 weeks and then it only did it the once usually when I was slowing or changing down gears. I fitted a PC 111 USB must be 9 months now and I think it has only ever did this the once.
Now on the subject of over fuelling I have the PC 111 USB set at Track day settings this gives more fuelling for the cylinders. It is software that is integrated with the PC 111 USB, you can download it from the www.powercommander.com web site. I cannot think what the hell it is called at the moment. I will have a look and get back to you. In saying this I have not altered the settings for the Track and I have been running around town, going for a spin etc, etc. and it has not stalled or spluttered yet.

A P U
' ACCELERATOR PUMP UTILITY ' Here it is lads. I have mentioned this before but has anyone installed this on their PC 111 USB? I had this setting at Track days but I have not altered the settings, in fact it has been at this all the time actually, take a look at the web site and look at the settings for fuel and revolutions etc, and drop me a line. I have had the basic Track day settings I am tempted to put it back to what they call ' Normal settings ' but I am getting nearly 130 miles to a tank of fuel so it cannot be over fuelling that much it never cuts out or splutters, so......if it aint ****ed you don't have to fix it.
By the way nice to talk to you I have not been on the Site for a while.
Nice talking.

hello all. i bought my bike in may of this year and it had the same problem. only it was idling at 700-900 rpm. i opened the airbox (pain in the arse to say the least) but turn the idle screw one full turn and very important replace the torque seal. fixed the problem..hasnt happened again. it idles at 1000-1100 rpm now.

Hang on, there's still an idle screw? I thought it was some modern electronic shenanigans which meant that the dealer has to do it.

FIXED !!!!
Thank you for all the replies on this subject.
I took it to the dealers under warranty and it turned out to be the fuel pump relay.
Apparently it had some corrosion in in which caused it to play up in addition the way up it was fitted it allowed water in (the dealer has now fitted it the other way)
now working 100%
