Tales of the Unexpected! (Faulty Solenoid on 999)

Ducati motors are surely a soulful thing. I started my 999s yesterday and the starter kept turning but the engine didnt fire up. Thinking i may have flooded the engine i turned the ignition off but the starter kept on trying to fire the engine.
I flipped the engine cut out and finally took the key out and turned my back on the bike.
Still the starter motor pleaded with the twins to start. I got back on and went through the starting procedure again and she started.
I rode straight to Riders and got off in front of many HD riders.I pulled the ignition key out and she kept on trying to start up. Oh how they chatted about the misbehaving Italian. ''She doesnt want me to get off and leave her' I said.
She started to sound like she'd been smoking 60 woodbines a day.

Having disconnected the battery and removed the faulty solenoid all was well again.
Apparently there was a faulty batch of solenoids-yeah right.
I would like to know if anyone has had the same problem and is there an easy way to prevent this strange but true experience.

Now then. Always check that your're in neutral and not a false neutral. You live and learn.

Heard of this on a few 749/999 models over the years so I doubt it's just one batch as they say if I'm honest
