Your 999s. What year is it Frenchy 03? Mine is. With all the extra's I have on it, it is almost exactly the same as yours.
I totally agree with what you say.

Yep mines an 03 I think...the reason I say that is because it has a DUC plate on it, but no newer than a 53 for sure.
Mutts Nutts for sure!

Without the 999 - there would be no 1098.
In 08 - I too will buy myself a 1098 - maybe an R variant who knows and I would love to keep my 999 as its the best bike I have ever ridden - I love it.

Second that Khushy,
There's no way on this earth that the 999 can be dissed, looks great, feels great, goes great, is great.............thats why I brought 2!!!

I think the 999 was a flop, not saying it wasnt a great bike but didnt have the impact and following of the 916 - 998 series
The 1098 has already got alot of people interested in it, ordering one without even having seeing it !
Just look at the amount of 999 - 749 riders that say they have or will buy one, or the 916-998 guys thinking of or buying one, they didnt do this for the 999.It might seem as though I am saying the 999 series was CR"P Im not but a FLOP it was, It doesnt have the loyalty that the OLDER bikes even still have, I liked the 999 but wouldnt buy one, like the 1098 but if I was going to sell the R then it would be for a 1098
I will duck down low now

TWO mag's February(Feb'?! but it's still only Solstice!) issue: "Today's unloved 999 superbike is tomorrow's enthusiasts' gold....."
"So was the 999 such a styling disaster? I don't think so. In fact, I rackon the 999 is a future classic in the making."
Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the 1098, but as my 12yr old son said when he first saw the photo's of the 1098 " I'm not so sure, looks too much like an R1 to me". That's the point, the Jap's will always copy a good design and by taking a backward step towards the 916-998 Ducati have joined the Jap clones.
I have always found that the best and most enduring choice of music has come from albums that I wasn't so sure of to start with. Albums I liked from the word go don't get played so much after the initial love has faded.
Same with bikes (and women  ). Didn't like the 999 when it first came out, then quite liked the updated '05. Perhaps I'd get one of those, but the more I looked the more I liked the first 999 with the top fairing vents....and that's the one I bought.
Do you know, I do think that Terblanche is going to have his day
Maybe I won't join the headlong rush for a 1098 after all...I can hear an '04 999R calling..........

I am not able to comment about the "on track" ablity, having not ridden any Duke in that way.
I can compare my 999s with a 996 (a friends' I used a couple of times) and as a road bike for me the 999 feels much more comfortable for road use.
Styling, of course, is subjective - but I absolutely love the 999s mono styling.
It is so radical that I suspect (hope) it will never be copied by the Japanese and I think that with time it could prove to be regarded as a classic.
By the way I loved the 916 styling when it was first introduced and it remains an iconic shape.
The 848/1098 - some gorgeous detail and I'm sure stunning bikes to ride (though a bit tall for me, being a short a*se) - but put it in a line up of R1s/Fireblades etc and for me it doesn't quite stand out.

Similar to earlier posts, I have a 999S 2003 on a 54 plate and I love it!!
Personally, I think it is just part of the evolution that comes with bikes, dare I say that Ducati broke the mould in trying to be different?
Nothing wrong with being different, just think how far that engine has progressed?
Mine still turns heads, my good lady wheeled her out yesterday for a wash and turnover (it's still up for sale, so best keep it ticking over I cant as I've just had a hernia op!) andd the neighbours still come out for an ogle!!
well that's my two bobs worth, back to the tablets!

GWS mate !
I love the 749/999 shape, it's what converted me after 19 years of Jap bikes !
because it was different more 'space age' styling, not another clone
Long live the 999 !
