bike magazine say that on the 1098 you can adjust the rear ride height without affrcting susspension settings like on 999 ?
is this easy to do and how much can it be dropped ?

It CAN be easy to do,if the nuts on the adjuster are not siezed. They are made out of swiss cheese and round off very easily.
Not much scope for lowering the bike,as they usually come on the lowest setting from the factory.

Ride height won't affect suspension anyway, just geometry

Can someone clear something up for me as i am begining to think i am going mad...I have read in another post, and this post suggests that shortening the bar will raise the back of the bike..... I have just swapped the showa shock on my 999 for an Ohlins from a 999s. The bar that was on my bike was 280mm long and the bar that came with the Ohlins is 285 (the recomended max lenght) Now my rear is deffinately higher but reading these two posts has me confused....I am also going to fit the Ohlins forks, any one with a 999s care to share thier suspension settings with me? I am particularly interested in the length of the spring on the rear, the showa shock which i have been using is 165mm long, and the Ohlins has been set at 140mm long...i am guessing the owner weighed alot more than my 12 stone!! Any one care to suggest an initial setting to get me started...i think 140mm is way to short for me and the type of riding i do..(fast road)

cheers

You seem very confused.....I would go to a professional and tell him what you want for you!

the max advised tie bar length will give the highest ride height to the rear........so shortening it would lower the height.

To measure the rear ride height consistantly you should use the Ducati datum tool.

There are so many factors to take into consideration before altering this that i would stick with the professional........by all means fit your forks and shock then get it set up somewhere.
