What's the best set up for 1/4 Action Throttle?
Have heard a few conflicting stories about the best 1/4 throttle set up for the 749/999 Dukes......
They are to either use an early Monster throttle or a 916 throttle set up.....???
Has anyone set up a 1/4 action that they can show in pic's etc.........It's just I'd like to set this up over the winter on my 999 just to see how better is performs??.........
Cheers.....

Yeah..not sure If I explained it right....
I want to set my 999 up with a single cable quater action (quick responce) throttle.....
I've been told the best set ups are with either a early Ducati Monster throttle or a 916 throttle......???
I was hoping that there might be some race boys or girls on here that have the knowledge of setting this system up????

I dont know where you get the 1/4 throttle thing from?
To start at the beginning, a 999 throttle is 94 degrees zero to hero........
this as i and others have found is a two grip thing and difficult to use. The problem is that it is a twin cable item. Dont get fooled by any talk about the need for a closing cable due to the size of engine etc ....and the need for bigger springs or different throttle cams.....
The simple answer is the 999cc engine was fitted in the 998R.......with a single cable throttle!
Now, the 916-998 range throttle has virtually been the same since the beginning, apart ffrom the cold start thing being removed. The beauty of it is its a 60 degree zero to hero.......so you are now a 1/3 quicker. the single cable means you need a new cable if you fit it to the 999, and the 998 one is too short. It costs about a £10 to have one made...........
job done.
I do note on the jhp site that they now supply a twin cable billet throttle for £150.....it does look nice and has the quicker action.

Easy..............i need to add that to get at the bottom ends of the cables to remove the old and refit the new one, you need to get inside the air box.
this means tank off, and even though the airbox is two bits screwed together, you need to remove the airbox to get at the front scrrews!!
this means removing the ign switch, which is held in by two loctited double sided screws that youll need to heat up and lock two nuts on .......and pray! to get it off past the frame cross member.......
its never easy!

I suspect its q/a as in quick action...rather than q action as in quarter?
But your right you can use the 916 throttle...and its cheaper.

Cheers 'andyb'
Knew I wasn't going mad.....
Do you know if you can use the 916 cable linkage or do you have to have one made up???
I was told that the return spring on the 999 throttle action is strong enough to use a single cable but I was also told that I might have to modify a cable to fit????
Any ideas....??

its all STANDARD cable in the 999s - I am certain - 100% that WITHOUT any modification that a single cable can be used with a 916 series throttle - no worries at all.
