Ducati 999 Airbox Removal? (999 Project)

Now the info I received about what chain to get was great....so I'm hoping that the 749/999 boys and girls can give me some hints on the following...

I'm in the middle of stripping my Yellow 999 down to have the frame painted and I've come to taking the air box off.........ummm

Before I go ahead with this can anyone give me a few hints about the easiest way to get it off...??

It looks like there is a set of screws going around the centre where the two halfs join which is fine..it's just getting to the one which is right at the front....looks a pig to get too..??

Do I need to get this out or can I remove the whole unit by just un-doing the two large bango bolts underneath..??

Anyone have any ideas please..

Cheers

You need to take the whole unit off and raise it before you try to split into two pieces. Its a bugger to remove.

If you can get the two studs out that hold the ign switch on. (by using two nuts locked together and the heat from a hairdryer helps!)

that ll ease the box forward to get the bottom rear past the diagonal crossmember............

course if its an r and being yelllow it aint, you can remove the ickle crossmember that holds the ign switch in!

You stripping the whole bike? Ive got the piccies from my strip down if it helps..........and the ducati engine stand as you lift the frame off the engine........you dont even need to remove the radiator, just release a hose and put it back on........

I stripped the frame off in about 4 hours..ish the front end as one from the head bearings, the rearwheel and swing arm, then the eng etc as one left on the stand.....

Really interested in this engine stand design you have..I was going to fabricate some box metal tubing but would rather something a bit more professional looking.......

Cheers for that 'andyb'..

Luv the look of the Duke when their striped down.....if you know what I mean.. lol

Are you having your frame resprayed then or are you getting the F0 braces welded under the tank.......???

Just spent a fortune on carbon, Ti and magnesium so I really wanted to get rid of the silver frame look and have it painted black to match the subframe / swinging arm and carbon..

I'll have a go at that airbox today, see if I can get the thing off....

Your bike looks the biz buddy...got any pic's of her fully dressed....??

Looking good mate......

I assume it was originally an early 999R then with the cast swinger......???

I've just fitted a braced swinger in mine.....they look a lot better...

Like the race fairing, have you opted for a daytime Mot then??
