Gilles Variobars on 999!

Hey up guy's, i've got a few questions about Gilles variobars on a 03 999. I bought a pair off ebay a few weeks back and was wondering if any one had any advice on fitting them?

I've pulled all the bits off my bars and swapped over to new bars. It looks like i didn't get the long allen key to adjust bars with and no instructions. Any idea what size and leghth the allen key is and whether i can get one from anywhere? Anyone got a copy of the instructions the can post/ email?

Also, i've found the cables are tight to the bars on 3/4 lock each way. Can i get away with re-routing the cables or do i need to change to new ones? I've found new/longer accelerator cable extensions and break hoses etc but what about electric cables, will they need extending and where do i get them from?

Oh the wonder of messing around! Looks like the weathe is going to be nice this weekend. Might have to put the original back on while i get sorted.

Hope someone else has had the same experience and can share some knowledge/ pitfalls with me.

Cheers!

Got gilles variobars on my 999R and had them on my 2003 999S . I`ll look as soon as I can for the instructions . I lengthened my cables 50mm but everything else was o.k. for length . Dont forget the fast idle cable as well . The allen key needs to be the length of the bar its a T handle that comes with it . Off memory you need to drill the odd hole , As original bars , for the locating pins of various levers etc. Your oil reservoirs will be fine.
They are much better than standard by the way.

Cheers, were the cables new longer cables and did you extend them and if so how? Did you mean choke and throttle? Did you have to legthen electrics or just re-route them?
I've managed to find a lond 6mm allen socket which fit's So thats a start.
The bars already have holes in them due to been second hand so i'll try use these.

Im going to have another look this weekend, part 2!!!!

Don't suppose there is any chance of any close up picture is there?

I WILL get these on somehow!!!!

Cheers

I made my own new cables. I measured the original cables then I cut them and made up new ones using parts from the old ones with some new outer , all new inner , and new nipples . The throttle has two . An opener and a closer . Both different . Theres also the Fast idle cable ( no such thing as a choke on a ducati ) and that needs the same treatment . Its easy if you have an idea of soldering . The difficult bit is removal and fitting this I , and probably many others , will talk you through later . Removal of air box is easy .

Wow,thats a lot of work to get higher 'bars.
I fitted Fast by Ferracci 'bars to my 999S.They are slightly higher and wider than standard and they fit straight on with no mods required. The Helibars fit the same way.(Not as nice looking tho!)

The ones I have on my 999 are also the ones that I had on my 998 . Dont know wether that may have made a difference . You could possibly get away with rerouting your original cables . I didnt like the look of them when I tried this . You dont want them getting stuck.
