Ducati 999 - 54mm Termi Pipes Melting my Bike!

Well I have just got my bike repaired as my 54mm Termi pipes had melted my fairing down near where the side stand fits in. I have now wrapped the exhaust pipes down around the area with exhaust bandage in an attempt to stop it happening again.

Chatting to Old Buzzard at the pub the other night I told him about it and warned him to look out for it on his 749 as he has just had the same 54mm pipes fitted to his bike, He has just posted to say that he went home and checked his and well errr too late.

So how many others have barbequed their fairings like this.

Watch out for that Heat bandage stuff, its good at preventing the heat from Escaping and protecting the Body work, but i used to get loads of Problems with My Subaru Cracking the Down Pipes using it as the Heat just gets so hot it cracks the Metal!! (goes Brittle!)

Although my subaru was about 500 BHP lol

I was advised to use exhaust bandage as it is used on some race bikes for the same reason, bigger pipes melting things. Something else to look out for though I guess.

I'll keep an eye out for this, new fairing so no idea if this has been happening. Any chance of some pics?

I'd have thought that the 54mm wouldn't get as hot as the originals due to the removal of the cat.

Cant do pictures at the moment as I dont have digi camera It is to do with the pipes being too close to your plastic, in fact actually touching maybe down near your stand. Just remove the lower fairing and have a look on the inside. If you have some nice smooth groves appearing then Desmo warming has begun

I think that my zorst is probably in contact with the fairing but haven't had time to take the side off to check yet.......well, perhaps I have but the sun was shining and I could either work on the bike or ride it........any questions?

Don't think that I have space to wrap the exhaust and so have got some self adhesive heat shield with the intention of trying to space the fairing off the pipe and protecting it with the heat shield.

Will update, with photo's if pos', when I get on with it

I know this is the 999 forum, but has anyone experienced melting with the full Termi system on a 1098?

Well, let me put it this way Roy........if the 999 suffers from it then the 1098 will be far worse 'cause the 999 is so much better built than that parts bin special.... .......

Oh dear, I see that homeward bound blast over the mendips has you suffering withdrawl symptoms.

An ice cube bath and early to bed for you in future, now there's a thought refrigeration for 999 exhausts .

Too much excitement in one day is plainly not good for you.
