Leaking Clutch Slave Cylinder

Hi,

I was enjoying a ride today and when I stopped could not get neutral!!

I turned the bike off and got off to inspect the bike!

I noticed fluid running down the side stand, on closer inspection I noticed fluid leaking out of the slave (not master) cylinder with the lever pulled in!!!!

Now I thought new seals required! But after reading things on the Forum it sounds like an expensive replacement!

I see the new kits on ebay, is this the only answer??

Please help, I am gutted!!

Or do I have to go to a dealer for a mega expensive part!!! Hope Not!!!

Many Thanks

Carl

If the fluid is running down the side stand, dont you mean the SLAVE cylinder, rather than the MASTER cylinder? Fluid from the MASTER cylinder is gonna have one helluva complex journey to get to your side stand......

Hi

You can buy the slave cylinder seals from Ducati for a few bob, or you can get a modified piston with an improved seal from Nelly at Cornerspeed for about £20.

In eiher case make sure that you polish the bore of the cylinder with 1200 wet and dry and use plenty of clean fluid to lubricatwe the seal before re assembling the slave cylinder

regards

Douglas

Replace it with an after market item, either via ebay or get one from:
http://www.casoli.co.uk/139/ducati-l...-cylinder.html

Yes they are expensive, but bloody worth it. You could always get one shipped from who makes them:
http://www.evoluzione.net/

If you go down the route of new seals then every time you clean the bike remove the front sprocket cover and remove any build up of chain loob. It's this and the bits of grit and crap that stick to it that cause the seals to let go. All the more reason to clean you Ducati even more! Also if you are generous with it then go easy on the chain loob.

I agree ..look for an ergal one on Ebay ..dont forget to tick the europe box as others from Italy etc come up.

I got one last year & it made hell of a difference....easy to fit & cheap too..

One of the better mods in my opinion

Hi Carl,
Look for a slave made by MPL on e-bay, they're the dogs bol*ox.
They're far better than the evo' ones and seal to the engine case, keeping out the muck from the chain.
I've used both types and swear by the MPL item.
You should be able to pick one up for around £70.
