Bike: 1979 Ducati 900ss

Lightbulb Value V Hassle

I have been offered quite a sum for my 1979 900ss that has sat in my garage unmoved since returning from the TT in 1991!!!!!!!!!. I have the tools and the ability to renovate the beast, and some of the bikes on the "bevel heaven" site are inspirational so I am considering attack!! Before I start and the never ending drip feed of cash. What do you think its worth in A1 condition?

1/ Best electronic ignition/price

2/ Recommended Paint restorer

3/ As above chrome

4/ Cosmetics ie new seat etc

5/ Uk supplier of bits

Thanks for any help Glos/Chelt area.

Hi,
A new ignition system, repaint, rechrome and a new seat are going to cost a lot of money.
You'll probably find all the brake seals will need changing by now as well.
Is the bike fitted with Magnesium Speedline wheels? If so they'll need changing by now.
John Fallon at Mdina Italia is a good source for spares and information, as is Tony Brancato at Brancato Engineering.
I'm not sure if you've noticed but there's fear of a recession, which normally affects Classic Bike prices.
A nice "79 900SS can be had for as little as £5,000 at the moment.
Some may ask more but I'm not sure that they're getting the asking prices...

Smile Thanks for help.

Thanks,
I think you are about right, as said surprisingly a dealer who was very helpfull offered far more than expected, I have a feeling that they are going back to Italy such is the demand, another bike I like 1955 Guzzi Falcone which I nearly bought for £5K three years ago are now going for £10K Plus. Again Italy appear to be "into" their own bikes.
I am not really into all this nostalgia bull****, the SS was a great bike and in the 70s is was my dream however I know the "issues" with them. At present I can't sell my Falco for £3500 which is the best bike I have ever owned (bought a Factory R ) yet someone is willing to pay more for a bike thats not moved since 1991!!!
I will total up the cost of bits. If anyone out there knows and recommends a painter, chrome finisher please let me know.
Thanks ZZZZZ 07788510474
