Exclamation Fuel for an old bevel,

As forum on the bevel section, considering restoring my old 900ss which has not run since TT 1991!!!!!!!! (ingnitionF---kd). Had a look today and picked up where I left off 17 years ago, found the transducer box, found the pick ups that I repaired. Discovered that the bike turns over beautifuly no siezed piston rings and that oil appears instantly from the rear bevel. One carb slide stuck, then thought what fuel do you need this bike? twas prior to the lentil brigade? Another issue,
Electronic ignition mine failed due to wiring failure as it runs in oil (not designed for) I think I have fixed this, however whats the best replacement? I know the company DMC? still make a set, with a five year warranty but very expensive. Madina seem to repair the original bosch units? any advice out there.

Regards ZZZZZ PS designed and made a fiywheel puller (nightshift) all those years ago, I think this is better than the factory item . Does anyone want one as a batch of 10 could be made at a reasonable price. 07788510474

Fuel for an old bevel

I now (since an expensive re-build) run mine on super unleaded and Miller VSP Plus to protect the valves.
The super unleaded is 97 octane and the VSP plus adds another 2 octane which actually adds up to 99 octane?
These engines were designed to run on 4 star which if I remember right was 98 octane
Mine definitely 'pinks' on crappy unleaded even with the Miller VSP Plus.
John at Mdina Italia does an exchange service for the bosch pick-ups, not cheap (£120 at set I think) but I've had them in mine for 2 years with no problem.

My Big bev has run significantly better since I became more careful what petrol I put in. Starts better too, although that might be down to my technique improving!
I make a point of using Shell or BP top of the range stuff + Castrol Valvemaster plus

...another who uses Castrol Valvemaster as an additive. Don't overdo the quantities though - too much of it caused my old MV to misfire.

Do you really need an additive? I have read lots of research to say the valve recession problem was overhyped and the only engines that need lead replacement are where valve seats are cut in a cast iron head. Or are you being extra careful?
