Differences 748 / 916

Hi guys,

To start with apologies for the very newbish questions that i'm sure to come out with over this next period in time but i suppose we all have to start somewhere...

I'm looking to buy a 748 or a 916, this neeeed to buy one of these machines is at this moment in time purely based upon styling and the amazing sound of the V2...

I'd like to know if there are any significant differences between the 748 and the 916?

Is the 748 basically a 916 with a 748cc motor?

Also i've never ridden a bike larger than 500cc, would i be crazy to go from 500 to 916?

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

Hi davidinitalia - Tough one this considering the different models in both ranges and that there's probably been lots of minor changes since the 748 appeared in 1995. Then, the 748 and 916 Biposto's were virtually identical as the 748 was a derivative of the 916. So at the risk of getting corrected by our ducatisti experts, I'll say yes, your assumption seems to be correct.

The choice of ride is really personal, most of my mates reckon the 748 is looked upon as great track tool but I think they're both great for either track or road.

Naturally, I'd go for the 916 (am I biased?) and you're not mad to go from a 500 to a 916 - A throttle goes in both directions remember!

Stay safe and happy riding.

Technically speaking ......its an L2 not a V2 !!!

There are many differences in spec depending upon the model of 748 and 916 but essentially the essence is the same....theres lots of info on the site about the various models.....and a model history I think for 748 lineage....do a search...!
