Really interesting thread seeing as I will be doing my first track day in a few weeks.

Hopefully I will start to put some of the theory into practice...maybe!

I am a complete novice, but a couple of instances I think I may have experienced this 'feel' or 'feedback' sensation. once was when banking in on a roundabout....for a fraction of a second it felt like the front was just about to slide away. I stood the thing up pretty smart and **** myself.

Now the only question for me is was I pushing the tyres too far? I doubt it, more interesting is trying to identify what I had done wrong. Or even if I was anywhere near an off. Sometimes it seems like I will have to ride for an eternity untill I fully understand and appreciate the limits of the bike and tyres.

I hope the track day will start to shed some light.

My advice for all you guys out there that seem concerned about whether or not you have reached the limit of the tyres.

Is forget about limits of tyres as you will never reach them but you will end up instead pushing the boundaries of your skills which will end up with you hurting your pride and joy, as well as yourself if you're not careful.

No one can tell you how to recognise the limits of the tyres, they may suggest what you may feel but by then you will already be lying in the road. The truth is that sliding the front or rear comes from learning through pushing the limits and often falling off. For me this was as a school boy motocrosser and though I may not be the quickest guy out there on a superbike, I'd say that experience and confidence as a young racer has given me certain skills that may well not be present without my past experiences.

If anyone thinks I'm talking rubbish, TUFF

I agree completely, ride within your limits enjoy and survive!
The only place where you should be pushing to find YOUR limits is on the track, where there is less chance of meeting a tree, roadsign or kerb, after you have inadvertantly exceeded your limit and there are the emergency services readily available.
Personally I doubt I will ever find my bikes limits, excepting the odd patch of diesel or ice!

BTW, does everyone have to read threads from bottom to top? Is that an option I can change somewhere?

Sounds like you just need more riding with experienced riders. Hop on over to Ducati Up North Home (many many riders much closer to you) browse the forums and the calendar. We ride a lot.

I didn't know you'd seen me ride? Or are you just making a sly comment to try and get a rise? Not my fault you made a big claim and failed to back it up with a non existant picture. right back atya.

TP decided to have a little lie down at Cadwell Park when they were racing Desmo Due, right in front of Couch, who had to swerve several times before managing to clip TP's head! Needless to say Couch came in shaking thinking he might have killed him, but TP bounces well (must be the Kangaroo genes or something )
