But you still need to take the tank off and I once tried to remove that screw on mine, it was stuck fast in there. Sod's law says the threads would strip 400 miles from home - just as easy (and probably quicker) to turn the tank upside down at that point.

You are not alone Pete - I had my head stuck up my backside about a year ago, just got back from holls and used to putting petrol in the bike so drove my diesel scenic to the garage - and filled up with petrol !!!!

I ran it for about ten miles and wondered why it had no grunt before I realised what I'd done. Luckily I was right by a garage which had stayed open late for another customer and they pumped out my tank & filled me up with diesel. It doesn't seem to have had any long term effects on the car engine - only on my pride.

As an aside, they didn't charge me for getting rid of the contaminated fuel because - you gotta believe this - there was a guy living opposite the garage who drives a tank - yep, a sherman type battle wagon! - and it runs on a mixture of diesel and petrol, so he was happy to get £60 of free fuel.

Well from the sound of it I'm not the only numpty on here. Phew.

In fact I did use the drain plug which did the job of totally draining it. Was tight to undo and I was worried it wouldn't seal properly but it has apparently.

'Pete's heath robinson approach to brewing hooch in his tank certainly captured the interest of the locals.'

Bike: thinking of a 998

Still laughing Pete. Unfortunately after seeing how well the Duke performed as a real world bike, I'm looking at them! Always fancied one....

I ride a VFR VTEC. If I get a 996/998 it would be as a second bike. My VTEC did a 3500 mile tour of Europe in comfort with some fun thrown in, so she stays.

Superb. An ST will also do that (probably show a VFR 'the quick way' through the turns too)

Well Luckypants is not your stereotypical Viffer rider and unless you are seriously quick on an ST I think not.

Perplexes me though that an ST4S makes more power than my same engined "superbike".

Yeah tried an ST when they first came out and I had a VFR750-FV. Didn't like it. Never even thought of an ST4 when looking to replace the SV, so there you go.
