Nice images of your bikes guys...

It must have sounded great having two Ducati's nose to nose blasting accross Europe, in beautiful weather... the stuff dreams were made of!

Bike: 06 749 Gloss Black

Hi all.
Well, after a few years of SV650S ownership it's time to move on (thanks largely to some thieving scumbags).
I was having all sorts of sensible thoughts of buying Japanese but I keep reading about the amazing handling of the 749. The Dark is utterly gorgeous and is apparently well suited to road-riding.
I'm going to try & book a test ride in the coming weeks.
Does anyone have any advice?
I'm intending to use it for a 20 minute commute as well as fun at the weekends, is this madness, will it dissolve at the slightest hint of moisture?
Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers!

Welcome to the site BaggaZee

From what i've heard on the grapevine the Ducati's are no worse than the Jap bike's for corrosion all its going to take is a dedicated cleaning regime during the winter months.

I am in the same situation as you at the moment looking for a ducati rather than a Jap bike well mine never got stolen, Thieving scum bags. At the moment i've got a Suzuki GSXR at the moment and took a 999 out for a test ride yesterday and loved every min of it SEE THE SUPERBIKE 999 SECTION.

Cheers Brian, I read about your test ride, sounds great! I reckon 749 is more than enough for me, for now anyway!
Good deals to be had here too...

The word 'dedicated' in relation to cleaning has me a little concerned but I'm sure I'll manage!

Cheers Guys!
Can anyone direct me towards other places to buy Ducatis?
Ideally I'd like someone else to take the hit for the initial depreciation but I haven't found any 2nd hand darks yet, all BPs or Ss.

BaggaZee,
Don't assume you've got to get it from a Ducati Dealer. If you've currently got a Suzuki you might be lucky picking up a 749 (possibly a dark) from a Suzuki dealership that somebody else has part exchange after only a couple of years of ownership, in preference for a Suzuki. The dealer will be pretty happy to get rid of the Duke from his showroom and taking your prime example onboard.

Just an idea....

Not a bad idea, although mine was stolen so no part-ex. Got to be worth checking out other dealers though. Thanks.

I am not sure but the dark's only come out on the 999's this year but not sure on the 749's though you might want to check this out with the Dealer

Have you tryed Daytona motorcycles in Ruislip www.daytonamc.co.uk or in Aylesbury maybe a bit far www.onyerbike.net/ducati.htm

Where abouts in London are you?

They've been out over a year now I think and there is one at Daytona!
However, insurance could kill this idea. £1000 TPFT best so far!!!
