I doubt that as you have already displayed better taste in bikes as he went and got himself a Honda CBR 1000, now if it had been a Ducati........

Hi there,
Rug's right. Get a revolving door facility on the bank balance. I've kept all the receipts since buying my 996s in 2001 and it'll make you weep...Just a tip-be avasive with the missus about just how much you're spending and reassure that it's a good investment - resale values, and more importantly it makes you sooo happy, so if she loves you she should be happy too. Last bit is worth a try but frankly it never really worked for me.
Welcome to the best love affair you will ever experience....

If she (my better half) thought for one second that I was spending money on the 996s to resell her. She would cut off my manhood and post it on this site
I bought her for keeping and she will never be sold.
The changes I make will be tasteful and hopefully will enhance her looks which is hard to do as she is already gorgeous.

I would have loved to but unfortunately my other half's birthday is on the 13th so she will be expecting major pampering for that weekend.
You know the stuff, dining out Saturday evening, followed by breakfast in bed, a lovely walk in the country, followed by me slaving away in the kitchen for the rest of the day cooking for her parents who will no doubt turn up to celebrate her birthday.
Believe me if I could be there I would

Shame....But look on the bright side.... you'll probably live longer!

"Darling, in-laws - I'm taking you all out for a lovely brunch."
"Oh that's nice, thank you dear, where?"
"Err, a transport cafe just off the A5..."

it made me smile reading your write up there Brema..My first ride on the 916 was absolutely rubbish practically speaking, but i was still whooping with joy and giggling just because iwas back on the pony after a 7 year absence, because i felt like a superhero, but mostly, like you mate, it was the moment of realisation of a dream..yeah, maybe i was a bit of a sad act, but so what..Christ..that first ride was so full of symbolism!!
It doesnt matter which model it is, how old, what colour..if your is the one you always wanted, best of luck to you..Ive since bought a second 916 which really IS the one i always wanted (so shes' for keeps), and im gonna sell my original one in the spring (couldnt hit the reserve on fleabay recently)..
hats off to all of us who can relate to this story and pawned, sold, stole, begged and ended up with something iconic in the garage!!
For me it HAD to be a 916...does anyone really lust after an R1, Blade, whatever, year in year out?? No, not unless its an Rc30 etc...
Enjoy!!!!

For me it just had to look the same as the very first 916 I saw all those years ago, with the twin head lights and that unforgettable noise. Be it a 916, 996 or 998, it had to be red, it had to be a low mileage standard unmolested bike.
It is for me a status symbol, something that I will be proud of and will look after very well. Something I have not been known for in the past. I will never part with her and she will only ever come out to play in sunny weather.
I'm a Ducati 996s owner and no one can ever change that and I intend to have fun for the rest of my biking career
Dean
