Hello and More on Sprockets

Hello, I'm new here. I bought a new GT1000 a few weeks ago and I'm 400 miles into running in. Its a sweet bike and I can't wait to get it run in so I can use its full rev range. Anyway, in the meantime I've got to do something about the gearing. So my question for you guys who have played with sprockets is: Did you get Ducati sprockets or Renthals? I reckon ordering through B&C express is going to be quicker for me, as I don't have a Ducati dealer handy, but I'm not convinced that they have a 42 tooth rear for the GT1000. Any advice?

I put a 14tooth front on my 1000S before even riding it,also got one on my monster, cheaper and easier to fit than a rear,plus you wont need to change your chain.

Hi Duncan,

Most Ducati dealers will offer a postal delivery service, why not give one a bell? I am unsure as to who would be your nearest dealer though, maybe someone on here would be able to advise you. As far as sprockets go, have a look at this link.........

Thanks chaps. I should have said I was thinking of getting a 14T front and 42T rear and just playing about with them until I get a result I like.

I've bought bits mail order from Ducati dealers in the past, but TBH I've found B&C a bit quicker and easier to deal with, and I'm guessing that Renthal bits might be a bit cheaper.

Anyway nogaromil999 has been in touch so I'll see what he can do.

I fitted a 14T front (Ducati) and it has transformed the bike. I am sure the 15T is there purely to get the bike through noise and emissions tests, as it makes no sense at all from a rider's point of view. 6th gear was only rideable above about 80, which for a naked bike makes no sense. It's improved acceleration, and top gear is now genuinely usable on A-roads.

Well, I got a 14 and a 42, then found that none of my existing collection of sockets fitted the fron sprocket nut. Doh! Anyway I fitted the 42 and found I still have just enough slack in the original chain to get away with. Its certainly made the bike much more rideable, although I'd like to get the 14 on there as well to see if it makes even better use of the gearbox. just need to get round to it now, especially as I've bought the socket I need.
