GT1000 Luggage Rack

Heres how it fits on and what itlooks like when in place. A good quality chunky item, its the official Ducati item at £118... just back from Isle of Mann tt trip and the rack was just fine as was the rest of the bike.

Looks a nice item. Did you get it through a dealer, or are there any 3rd party suppliers? Does the rack match up with the pannier frames?

Its an official Ducati accessory and the part no is on the Ducati web site. But any Duc dealer will be able to order it.
It does not match the pannier frames as they are plain black. However they are quite a bit thinner and you dont really see them when panniers not attached.

OK, thanks for that. I really meant did they match physically, rather than in colour. I'd be quite interested in a rack, and also pannier frames if they were - er - discreet, but I don't want to turn my beautiful Duke into a replica of the Eiffel Tower. So the rack is a Ducati item - the pannier frames also?

OK i see what you mean. If you fit the rack and the pannier frames it wont look like like, for instance, the big ugly GIVI systems you see on bikes. Of course if you add a huge top box to the rack it does nothing for the looks but then again the top box can be detached easily. The pannier frames dont really show when the panniers are not fitted.

That's what I wanted to know. Thanks - looks like a good idea, if I need to take SWMBO and her Imelda Marcos shoe collection on a tour.

Bought and fitted today - looks great! I like the quality and design, and it really improves the look of the back of the bike, something which most racks fail to do. The only problem was the length of the bolts at the front of the rack. The supplied allen bolts were about 5mm too short, but a quick rummage in the shed found two M6 20mm bolts that fitted perfectly. Total time, about 30 minutes (20 if I hadn't had to find the extra bolts).

Mrs likes the grab handle, and I appreciate the extra handle to wheel the bike around. All in all, well worth it. Thanks for the advice.

Spoke too soon. I noticed a patch of something on one of the tubes and thought it was the remains of adhesive from a sticker. I tried to wipe it off with my hand and have ended up with shards of chrome plate embedded in my right palm. An area about 50 x 3 mm has just peeled off. Not good for a hundred and odd notes.

So that's back to the shop next week, then.

Still looks great, mind - from a distance.

Adam,

Just been looking at your touring screen and was wondering how it fixed to the bike? Does it attach to the headlight in the same manner as the Puig or does it go to other parts of the bike? I guess what I am trying to ask is do you think it will fit a Sports 1000? Thanks Ian.

I phoned him first thing Monday morning and there is another one on order. No problem.

At least it is only a 20-minute job. If I had spent the whole weekend fitting it I wouldn't be so relaxed.

Hi, I dont think the screen will attach to the Sports as it uses mounting points on the top yoke where the GT1000 handlebars attach. As the Sport 1000 uses clip-ons you wont have the fitting points.
Adam.

Thanks Adam, decided to go for the PUIG; it turned on Tuesday and took all of 5 mins to fit. It's got to be better than nowt but at that price doesn't really matter.

Got a new rack from the dealer as mentioned above, and it has been on the bike all winter. It was coated with ACF50 at the start of the bad weather.

There's rust at every weld. I polish it all off and treat with oil, and next week it is as bad again. Where I have been polishing the rust off, the chrome has gone so thin as to be transparent. Dreadful quality.
