Clutch on Ducati GT1000?

I just bought a GT1000 at the weekend. I'm new to biking and consequently have only driven a few other bikes (Jap).
My question is .... is the clutch painfully heavy, can it be adjusted beyond the 4 settings or am I a newbie and just need to get some man wrists ?

Hello and welcome to the site.

It can be a real pain riding a duke through the streets of London, All those gear changes really take their toll. I have known people to remove two of the clutch springs to lighten the load. I don't know whther this has any adverse effects on the clutch though. I'm sure someone will be along to tell us soon.

Don't they have a wet clutch? I could be wrong but I thought they did.

I thought that the lump was identical to the Multi.

It is a wet clutch for sure but still 'kin heavy. Gonna get me some of those spring things the body builders use or just get a new left arm when this one drops off.

it's a sohc dual spark twin valve air cooled unit, in that respect it is the same but they have stuck a wet clutch on it the same as the 1100.

Nah,the four settings are only there to adjust the lever span.
Best way to reduce clutch effort is to fit an oversized slave cylinder.Pretty sure they are a common fit to all Ducati's.
Always some on Ebay,...usually the MPL ones,...they go for around £70-80.

Welcome, a fine bike you have there. Yes its a wet clutch and yes it is kind of heavy in town. I seem to have got used to it though.
Where did you buy the bike from?

Bought it from Metropolis in Vauxhall. It's the sort of gunmetal grey one. Ex demo. My heart said go red but as a new rider who also has a keen interest in keeping a low profile from thieves - the grey seemed the better solution. Probably paranoia but if people felt the way I do about it - even otherwise upstanding citizens would be turned to crime !

An MPL or other aftermarket slave cylinder will undoubtedly help - i've got an mpl one on mine, and its a lot lighter......i changed the master as well to a radial set up and its now better still....
