Hyper 796!

Why the hell anyone would buy a 796 hyper instead of the 1100 is beyond me. I had a 696 monster and it was an excellent bike apart from the gutless motor which had absolutley no go what so ever. Take my advice and have a go on a 696 monster and then take out the 1100 hyper then you will totally understand why you should work and save harder for the 1100!

I would say if they did get cc up to 796 from 696 it could be a good bike. 80bhp or 90bhp is not much from each other. Now 796 would probably gain like 1 2 bhp so it would be even less but if 796 were to get much more torque it would be worth wile. 696 is very popular and 796 hyper is an option for those in to supermoto as I did try hyper and let me tell you as a new rider it would scare me like hell with that front wheel hopping about.

Unsquashable not every one and not every bike is about top speed. Even hyper 1100s with speed over 70 is very uncomfortable. Around 70 it is ok but best is 60 and below. Especially for taller people.

Why? cos for some of us a 696 is all we need! But now I've seen the 796 it's all I'd want.... great looks, adequate motor, happy rider... simples!

Plus, passed many a rider on bigger bikes thru the twisties riding my 696... no point having 'big horses' when it's ridden by a donkey. Even seen a HD Vrod outride some so called 'superbike' riders recently!

+1

I think the 696 Monster is brilliant.

...because some people are good enough to get full potential out of a 696 and don't need a bike that is quick down the straights to catch up.

796 HM will be a very rideable bike on the lanes.

good point mate, seeing 848s and 1098s with the most embarssing chicken strips parked outside ducati dealers, its clear that some people need the extra power to make it up on the straight bits lol.

My little monster would be left for dead on the straights, but I always caught the big boys up on the twisties

You two miss the point. On normal road riding it will be enough for anyone. A good rider will be able to stay in touch with big boys and that is it.

The Hyper 796 will likely use a *de-tuned* 696 motor for more torque and less peak power. It's likely to be around 70bhp with 50ft-lbs of torque across the range. That's 20% less than the 1100 for bhp and 2/3rds the torque.

I'm sure it'll be a great bike, but some of us like the extra grunt of the 1100 and can use it as well

It is doubtful they will want to use a de-tunned 696 engine. If anything it will be the same. The name suggests it will be a 796 so I would say BHP will stay and grunt will go up.

As already stated, I think it's a great idea.

There's nothing wrong with having smaller capacity bikes in the range. If anything Ducati's very much lacking this.

What's wrong with a cheaper (in all aspects) smaller bike to entice somebody new to the brand? The smaller capcity twins are fine for mainly urban use.

With the aging motorcycle population and the restrictions being placed on newer riders, I think this sort of thing will become more commonplace over the next few years.
