Bike: Ducati's

Hi,
It looks good to me so far, but what are those funny things on the end of the carbs?
The ss motors that these bikes run, go so much better on open carbs!
Trust me on this.
The bottom end is running out faster than the top end will, unless you suck in a stone, and mine hasn't done that in more than 130 thousand miles.
Mind you the local bird life always looks scared when i fire the old girl up!

Bike: 06 749 & 07 Multi

Just 1 question. I have had three bikes, 02 Monster900 & 748 and an 06 749. I was offered an MHR for not an excessive some of money last summer but turned it down. How would it compare? Would i want to ride it or just look at it? Would i kill myself on those tiny tyres?
I've always liked the look of classics (I would love an ex WD Bsa M20) but i'mworried i'd find them so awful to ride that i just wouldn't bother?

Please educate me

The MHR would be a nice thing to own for sure.A lovely thing to blat over to a bike meet,...stand back and watch the crowds gather.A well set up bike will just about keep up with anything on the road.Just dont go thinking its a 749 tho!Stuff like suspension brakes and tyres have around 20 years development on them.
Expect to rebuild the engine once a year if regulary used hard.

couldnt agree more, this isnt a daily commuter bike, thats for sure, beliveve me theres a world of difference from riding the mhr to a modern ducati, as mentioned the biggest difference is brakes, they are virtually non-exsistent compared to modern bikes, its a dream on the twisties, and gives you plenty of confidence, and was well before its time, but she rattles, is heavy as hell, and i wouldnt want to stop quickly, but just have a go on one, and you will understand why is has a special place in the development of road racing, and ducati's history.

i will add that give extra respect to mike hailwood to win the world title on this baby, the man was a genius!!!

now about those k&n's,never had a prob with them, bike runs fine. but i am now going to try without, wasnt sure if that was a racing motor mod, to run without, god i know nothing.

Hi,
As new they came fitted with grey plastic Bellmouths or trumpets if you like.
The mod at the time was to cut them down to 1/2 their length...
This was a Steve Wynne mod... The man behind Mike the Bike's TT victory.
With open carbs, the induction noise takes on a loud crack on large throttle openings and sounds louder than the contis as you leave the noise from them behind you.
The bellmouths were fitted with a wire mesh screen to keep out anything larger than a small pea.

hi,
I don't wan't to take over your thread, but i thought you might like to see a set of racing carb's of the day as fitted to my 900ss special.
I tried to crop the picture of the near side to show the carb but had no luck, but if you can zoom in you'll see the carb quite clearly.
