Where are all the Monsters?

The Monster is the iconic Duke that keeps the wheels of Ducati manufacture moving, so it amazes me that there are only 8 posts in this forum...... isn't there anybody currently on the site that owns a M1000?

Come on people, if you've got a Monster write a review of your experience, and if you include a few pics I'll get you on the homepage. I know I own a 748 but lets not let superbikes take over the forum..... time for Monster owners to fight back and tell us about proper naked bikes without silly fairings... bikes with muscle!

Big aircooled monsters are rarer than you would think, just ask my old man who has been looking to buy one for the last two years. M620s and S4s are plentiful, but the M900/1000s? Vertually none for sale.

I believe Terry (the Pres)from the UKMOC had one but i'm not sure he's got it now. There certainly isn't many about it seems.

I've got one of the first M750's a '96 sliver model. Had it for 6 years. It's a bit tatty now as shes my main run around (and black at the mo, due to a fuel tank off a later Dark model), but I'm gonna try and hang on to it as these ones seem to be quite rare. Although I think most of the first 750's were silver you still don't see many around, most seem to be red or yellow 600 or 900's. Does anyone know how many silver 750's were produced?

The 748 is the bike that I choose to take out on a sunny day but I still love the Monsters, especially the early ones. It was seeing a Monster (in a book) which first turned me on to Ducati's. I could, and maybe will one day, write an essay on my appreciation of the design.

When i had my 900 i used to wash it, polish it, park it in the middle of the lawn, pull up a chair, grab a beer or five and just stare at it untill it was too dark to see. THAT, brother and sisters, is true love!

Pleased to hear it Legs...... and that's what I'm talking about, I do feel that time has come for a little nakedness in my life. The S4Rs has to be the Daddy of the Monster Dukes, but the prices you see for old 900's these days gets you thinking! Just such a shame there are so few represented on the site....

We used to have a regular member on the site called V90 who was the only other person I can think of that owned a Monster 1000 and that's why I set up this thread, the blimin' things seem very rare around here.

Am i the only M1000 owner on here. lol
I have owned it for 3wks, it's black with lots of carbon fibre

I have always wanted one, so could not resist when i saw it in the shop. It's a 2003 model, in very good nick.

V90.... what a pleasure it is to hear from you!

I'm very pleased to see you're still around... with winter coming my bike will be in pieces as ever in December, so I may be sending you a few PM's to quiz you on your engineering knowledge. I want to anodize my battery bracket for one, so think it might be fun to experiment a little as it's out of sight....

As for your Monster 1000, are those new Remus cans I see before me?
Nice to see the clear cam-belt covers are still in place....

You're right about Remus cans Dan and they sound great with excellent quality construction except they didn't fit straight away so I can't recommend them to KarateBiker who is looking for some new cans for his bike. They do have removable baffles and are marked road legal though.
The pic shows the alignment problem and Remus did supply a new RH pipe which was better. I was able to lift the RH can enough to get the bolt in but the strain on the aluminium bracket eventually resulted in a fatigue failure.
I made a new bracket from stainless steel which dropped the hole so the RH can bracket was aligned with no strain, and then made some spacers to drop the LH bracket to lower the LH can to match which ended up looking good but it was a lot of effort.
Another point to consider is if anyone wants to do the popular 'tail chop' to remove the tea-tray then these Remus cans are too long and gives the bike a 'wheelbarrow' look. They can be dismantled and shortened but why bother when you can buy a better system from Sil Motors.

Dan, you're welcome to my opinion on any engineering topic although I haven't logged-on for ages - just been browsing occasionally so email may be better.
