Tyre frightner
What are the best tyres (road all-rounders) to fit to a 1998 Monster dark 600 pls. As a newbie have just been out in the wet for the first time and horrified at how slippy my bike became even at v.low speed/throttle. Apparently the tyre I have right now are not the greatest. Thanks

What are you using at the moment as a mater of interest? Are they new/worn/knackered?
Cheers

Diablos
I'd recommend Pirelli Diablos if you can get them - these are the control tyre used for DD racing and I have run them quite happily on my 996SPS and on Mrs H's 620 Monster.
Pirelli have recently launched a new tyre to replace them in their range - the Diablo Rosso - so these would be a good choice as well.
Have a look here and do a search in the forum for 'Rosso' if you need more info: Pirelli Diablo Rosso Money Back Voucher Promotion

+1 They are, indeed, fab, especially in the wet. The kind of wet we're having in London as I speak, only a canoe will do, though.

Hi glassfrog, nice to hear someone going out in the wet on their duke. Our ducatisti friends are not wrong, and in my opinion the tyres mentioned are all great and I run 2CT's but still manage to spin the rear on cold wet days. You do say you are looking for general purpose in which case I would recommend the Diablo Strada or something with more of a tread pattern and slightly less road/race orientated.

Diablo Strada is really more of a Sport Touring tyre than the straight Diablo or Diablo Rosso.

I use Diablo Corsa 3s on my bikes, bt IMHO the michlin just pip the diabloin the wet. Don't know why, but the bike feels better in monsoon weather on the michelins.

Agree on the Diablo.
Though note that the Rosso is at present only available in a handful of (large) sizes, so doesn't really yet replace the stock (multi-size) Diablo.
See for Diablo sizes:
PIRELLIMoto - DIABLO
and for Rosso sizes:
PIRELLIMoto - DIABLO ROSSO

Thanks all for your help. The tyres on it are 'Maxxis'.. what's slightly worrying is they get in a right old fix as soon as there's any repairs/rut's in the road running in the direction of travel... causes the bike to weave somewhat. Is this unusual?
Nice one y'all

Just to muddy the waters a bit (pardon the pun)
I changed from Dunlops (poor in the wet) to Bridgestone BT-021 which have been a great improvement. They're a sport-touring type tyre, so should last a while (I'm doing about 7000 miles per year and don't want to be replacing tyres 3 times a year).
I'm not the world's most aggressive rider, but they hold up well during fast (80-100mph) A-roading and around the twisty bits. I'm certainly far more confident in their wet-weather grip than I was with the Dunlops.
