Lower Monster 600 Ride Height?

Hi Newbe here.

Wife has just passed her test and now rides a 600 Monster but at only 5foot tall she is a bit short in the legs and wants a lower bike. Now the seats been cut down as much as I dare and we have a new mono shock and spring fitted.
My question is this, the ride hieght appears to be set by the "A" linking the swing arm to the rocker arm locating the shock. This "A" is retained at the swing arm by two rose joints, these are fully screwed in.
Can I cut down the locking nuts for the rose joints?
or can a replacement frame be supplied if so where from???

You could probably remove 5mm from the bottom of the hoop without any problems, and cut down the locking nuts, raise the forks in the yoke to compensate at the front. She should manage OK, the 600 monster is about the lowest bike around! (not counting cruisery things) and i know several gurlies of just over 5 foot that manage well on them!
Make sure the stand is Ok once it's lowered, you may need to take a little off the stand as well as it will sit more upright and possibly be a little unstable?

an alternative to cutting the stand is to bend it.....this worked a treat on my 748 as the stand was aluminium so cutting and welding was more tricky to sort out.

the lovely chaps at parkys suggested bending it and it was just the job.

i'm only 5 foot tall too and have to confess i find hubby's 620 monster quite tall - I'm more comfy on my GSXR1000 (slightly lowered!) than the 620.

there is some EXCELLENT advice on adapting your riding style on here -

sorry Dan to put stuff up from another forum but it's good!

it really is excellent advice. being small is an almighty pain in the a*se but if you're stubborn like me and like big bikes then you just manage....i still moan about it constantly though

Or get a 695 and do all the above, as it's a lower bike than the old 620.

Good article, that, Harrie!

Hi,

Thanks to all on your answers.
My wife no doubt will have a look at the other forum with interest!
Regarding the forks was looking at that after I get the rear sorted, as to the hoop and the locking nuts just wondered if anybody had done some cutting here before.

I think with a few more miles under the belt the height bit will be less of a hurdle for her after all she has been used to a 125 Virago which you cannot get much lower! She rode that for miles, so not long before the mile strat cranking up on her 600.

Lowering...

My wife is 5' 4" tall, and owns a 600 Monster Dark. We lowered the ride height at the back as far down as it would go, softened the pre-load off a bit, and dropped the yokes down the forks about 20mm. She now has no problems... It is worth noting that the 620 is quite a bit taller than the original 600... Also remember, dropping the yokes has the effect of speeding up the steering on an already quite steep front end.
