cold engine problem

Hello,
First of all: I'm Alexa, 26, from Romania. I own a Monster 600 Dark since.. 620 km ago.
I ran into a problem with my baby, apparently since the weather turned cold.
When the engine is cold - basically when i start it, but even after 8-10 km, it feels like the throttle doesn't work and there are tiny explosions on the exhaust pipe. There's a word for this, but i just don't know it. This only happens when the engine is around 1000 - 1400 rpm. If i keep it around 2000 rpm (when staying at traffic light, eg) it feels ok.
Someone suggested the problem might be with the ignition plug, but I didn't manage see to if that was it.
I will take her to the "doctor" next week, but i would like to know if this is an usual problem with this bike (especially on cold weather) or if you have any other idea regarding what may cause the problem.

Thank you!

Does this happen in cold weather only and the bike runs fine when its slightly warmer air temp?

Symptoms
Bike runs really poor in cold weather only and has no accelaration and runs really badly , juddery and like a bag of spanners, when air tempriture gets warmer the bike runs fine?
does the 99 Monster 600 have Injection or have carb heaters or is it a straight carb model as you may need something like a shot of octane booster like pro FST but without specifics couldnt say.

The word you seek is "Misfire" where it bangs from the exhaust

Hey, Mick

Yes, the word was misfire. I looked it up in a dictionary . thank you.
It "runs really badly , juddery and like a bag of spanners" mainly when the wather is cold (and the engine is below 2000 rpm).
Well - since two-three weeks ago the weather is mostly cold here, so it's rather hard to sense the difference. But when I felt the engine warm (i mean when i felt my left knee warming up) it ran ok.
The 99 Monster is a straight carb model.

Hi Alexa

Yes, the carbs on these bikes are prone to icing at low RPM - and this would cause the symptoms you describe. As Mick says, try some Pro FST additive in the fuel.

Hi!

Thank's for the advice. I still want to check the plugs, though, just to make sure.

On the other hand, I don't know if i'll find the recommended additive in Romania. Are there any specifications i may look up for?
