Taking a short test ride today...

Hi,

Am viewing/taking a short test ride today on a red 695 with 400 miles on the clock

Anything I should look out for? Its meant to be mint...I'm just worried I'm gonna stall it the minute I let the clutch out

The bold part of text is what you should look out for first.
Then when you are riding if the bike is not stalling, if it does not smell of petrol much, check for any obvious oil leeks including on suspension. For suspension part get a clean sponge or anything (old tshirt will do but will look cheap ) with you and wipe any dirt of front and rear shock to see if at the end of ride there is any oil on it (wipe the part that goes in to fork tubes). Also do some hard acceleration to see if clutch is fine. Tyre, chain, pads is a usual.

Look out for what ever you would when buying any other bike/scooter. Also if it does not feel right walk there will be more to come.

Luca has it spot on with his last bit. We can all get carried away with the moment - take some time to reflect before signing on any dotted lines.

You'll be fine!!!

It's got 400 miles on it, so it's not likely to have any problems. Mine's done 13,000 miles and has never had any.

<LOL> the first time I saw my monster was after I'd run my debit card through their machine and went out side to pick it up <LOL>

When I put the deposit on it it was still in a box and i didnt even have a cbt, so I know what you mean about getting carried away.... I blame the wife <Long story>

Might be worth checking who has been riding it during those 400 miles. How is the clutch if it's been used as a demo or loan bike?

The 600/620/695 Monsters seem pretty tough by all accounts & you have the backup of a warranty. But as Luca & Tush have said, look elsewhere if it doesn't feel right.

Happy hunting & keep us posted.

Cheers, it apparently belonged to a bloke who bought it, went to america for a contract, rode his mates SR2 1000? and traded it in for one as soon as he got back...anyway, the next time you hear from me I may or may not have put down a deposit

The dealer should be able to clean it off with a decent wax shampoo or a damp chamois........

you barstewards I like your style!

Well, I went to the heart of Darkness (you know the central london one I mean ). I saw. I rode, I stalled it twice during rush hour round that poxy roundabout after having no chance to learn the clutch on an easy road and I 'laid down a deposit' so to speak...picking it up saturday!!!!

To be fair to them the guy seemed really ok and I have no complaints as yet

My hands were hurting though through gripping the handlebars so tight...tense? ME?!?

Really wish I'd have had a nice easy, quiet road to practice on but it didnt put me off enough not to buy it...and what a sound!!! Cant wait to really have a go, get confident on it and really ride - but it'll happen soon enough

Cheers for all your advice guys and gals and I'll post a piccie as soon as I can just in case you dont know what they look like

Great Scootaboy and it will be fine at the end I might have been very unlucky.

Hand will get used to it, you will learn fast love it even faster. That love at some stage becomes sick (going to garage in the evening to drink beer, look at her and stroke/talk to her).

Great news Scootaboy. Enjoy your new 695 & looking forward to your pics.
Make sure you receive a Ducati Accessories brochure with your bike. Once you open it you'll find that keeping your hand out of your wallet is like trying to keep a fruit gum in your mouth without chewing.....
