New bike...

Hi all, just bought this off the internet *yikes* and have not seen it yet! The dealer is a good fulla though, I have dealt with him before, + you have a 72 hour "I don't like it take it back" no questions asked option, so guess we'll see. Has some fruity bits already, but being a monster it needs plenty more...tail chop, carbon fibre belt covers, anodised clutch pressure plate & springs, carbon belly pan, billet levers, etc etc etc. Will post up what its like when I get to ride it, looking forward to that!

Bike: 2007 Monster 695

Nice bike, classic Monster. Hope the dealer can prove that maintenance has been done properly (belts etc.).

Enjoy riding your new bike & we look forward to more pics from The Land of The Long White Cloud.

Bike: 06 749 & 07 Multi

Congrats, the 900 is a rare and elusive beast, the old man has been looking to buy one for ages but they just don't come up.

Racer Rep Riders, get one of these! (If you don't already have one)

Got the bike and all good, it has done 12,000kms but seems like new, owner obvioulsy cared for it - not a mark.

Goes really well, a good torquey motor (clutch a bit late to engage, and complains a bit more than most dry clutches, might have to take the plates out I think) and has pretty good acceleration, runs out of puff at high speed but by then it is too windy (and illegal by far too much) anyway!

Now, I've riden Monsters before, but the more time I ride it the more I like it:

An excellent real world bike - highly recommended, easily keeps up with all but the most committed sports bike riders riding racer rep tackle - more often it is as quick to get from A to B on the real roads out there any way, and more comfortable with it. Went for a good ride with a 1098s, 916 and R1, and apart from the striaght bits where they turned their warp drives on, I was easily in the mix, and laughing too - they were wondering about paper thin rock hard seats, rock hard suspension, and if their licence would still be with them at the end of the day. I was wondering why the hell I haven't had a monster in my garage from the start (been riding for over 20 years now).

Most impressed - and as a sports bike only rider (GSXRs, CBRs, 748s, 749s etc) in the past I can't think why I didn't get one earlier. To those 851/888/748/916/955/996/998/749/999/848/1098 etc riders out there - get an old monster, or new one, or hyper motard etc if you can afford it! Keep your sports bike if you have to, but you won't regret it.....and I reckon you'll end up spending more time riding it than your racer rep. Racer reps are great (I love 'em) but I don't live at Donington Park, Philip Island, Laguna Seca or Valencia either...

Glad to hear your enjoying your bike... I see the lawns in the photos of the bike are a bit dry, I guess your in the South Island? I come from NZ myself and have property in NZ, Mangawhai Heads is one.
Thinking i'll return with a Duke as they seem a bit dear to buy downunder. i've currently got an ST2 and keep thinking its a perfect NZ bike. Not so good in middle england...

Cheers and have fun on your bike

Spot on! That was in canterbury (just north of Chch). I am in Wellington though, and it is just as dry here, we are having a drought....

Bring your Duke with you, I agree - you don't have to change your headlight so no problems with get a warrant here, and bikes are more expensive here, I reckon about another 15%-20%. Go to TradeMe - New Zealand Online Auctions and Classifieds to have a look. ST2 a perfect NZ bike too, gret for touring the south with...

cheers
Guy
