Got the bike and all good, it has done 12,000kms but seems like new, owner obvioulsy cared for it - not a mark.
Goes really well, a good torquey motor (clutch a bit late to engage, and complains a bit more than most dry clutches, might have to take the plates out I think) and has pretty good acceleration, runs out of puff at high speed but by then it is too windy (and illegal by far too much) anyway!
Now, I've riden Monsters before, but the more time I ride it the more I like it:
An excellent real world bike - highly recommended, easily keeps up with all but the most committed sports bike riders riding racer rep tackle - more often it is as quick to get from A to B on the real roads out there any way, and more comfortable with it. Went for a good ride with a 1098s, 916 and R1, and apart from the striaght bits where they turned their warp drives on, I was easily in the mix, and laughing too - they were wondering about paper thin rock hard seats, rock hard suspension, and if their licence would still be with them at the end of the day. I was wondering why the hell I haven't had a monster in my garage from the start (been riding for over 20 years now).
Most impressed - and as a sports bike only rider (GSXRs, CBRs, 748s, 749s etc) in the past I can't think why I didn't get one earlier. To those 851/888/748/916/955/996/998/749/999/848/1098 etc riders out there - get an old monster, or new one, or hyper motard etc if you can afford it! Keep your sports bike if you have to, but you won't regret it.....and I reckon you'll end up spending more time riding it than your racer rep. Racer reps are great (I love 'em) but I don't live at Donington Park, Philip Island, Laguna Seca or Valencia either...
