Hi New Member, bought monster in october from bike shop. Price looked too good to be true, great condition, 17000 miles, new tyres. Salesman pointed out that the cylinderstud had snapped, hopefully the money saved will cover rebuild cost. Stripped it down, a local engine remanufacturer was entrusted with the job of getting studs out, all 8 snapped off. Had them sparked out, couple of helicoils ..its ready to go back together (by ducati john, leeds) hope its worth the bother, past bikes inclued klr, xr, tdm, commando. couple of folk have said replace main bearings, saying that even at 17k could be shot, a pal of mine has one of these and its proved to be reliable. Much more so than his new buell.

Hi IJR, Welcome to the site and I hope all goes well with your Duke after all it's recent work. Gotta get us some pics of your Monster! You said it had 17,000 on the clock but I'd be interested to know what year it is for somebody to be recommending a main bearing replacement? Are the main bearings a common problem with the M900, or Dukes in general?

My 93 M900 has covered 44,000 miles, 30k of which were done by me.
In that time all its done is broken a cylinder head stud at 21,000 miles, that was due to Ducati using stainless steel studs on this model, replaced with hardened steel head studs.
Don't think you've got any thing to worry about.
