Cool I Don't Believe it!!!!

I am gutted!!

Whilst cleaning my steed yesterday, I noticed that the paint on the bottom of the engine has begun to flake around the sump!!!!

The bike is new from September and only done 4000 miles! What the hell!

I thought these paint jobs were top notch.

No idea what to do about it, anyone else had this problem? Have I any recourse with the dealer?

Clean the bike regularly useing Muck off and ACF to protect as advised by the salesman when I bought it.

Gutted! Why didnt I buy a belly pan.

Rich.

P.s. anyone had any experience fitting RnG frame protectors / wreckers? The instructions that were supplied are pants!

The underside of mine is flaky but was when I brought it . Might be a idea to see your dealer about it though as it is relatively new.

If it's still under warranty, you should be able to get it sorted for free at a Ducati dealer. We've just had exactly that done on my wife's Monster. I think they use children's poster paint on the engine casings as it seems to come off most bikes at some stage, no matter how they're cared for. If everybody claimed, maybe they'd think about a better coating.

If your bike is a 2007 model it should still be under warranty. Definitely worth a claim IMHO.

Worth a try at your dealer, don't be fobbed off. Don't know where you got the idea that the paint was top notch!! most of the engine cases paint IMO is crap!

In ten years of Ducati ownership I've had two casing paint issues and they've both been repainted under warranty, no issue or argument!

Have just found out the Warranty Claim has been accepted, Wahey!!!!!

Just awaiting for the paperwork before making a decision on when to book it in, apparently it will take a few weeks. So prob best off waiting to the beginning of winter when I will be using it less.

Might have to find a cheap and cheerful hack to run around with whilst its away.

Still, dead chuffed it will get sorted. Defo procuring a belly pan to protect in the future.

Rich.

Belly pan wont help much tho, salt/water will still go over it and you stand the chance of missing flaking paint even more if its hidden.
I've had 3 Monsters from new (March 2002, Jan 2004 & 2 months ago) - both earlier ones wore a bellypan - both had paint off the crank & sump, both had casings changed under warranty (but waited till service was due to save workshop time & being without bike).
2002 bike brought in March had paint coming off from mid June same year (tho belly pan was fitted in late April & dutifully removed for proper cleaning).
2004 Bike brought in January, paint came off at 500-ish miles, 3 days after I got the bike!
Still, no probs with Ducati coming up trumps - and also replacing footpeg hangers on both, rusting handlebars & brake lever to 2004 bike, & changing misted clocks on the 1st bike at 6 months.

C, still keeping the faith!

Quick update, think I will be getting the engine casings re-done as the bike is in with dealers due to fecker hitting me up arse and into wall.

Might as well get the whole lot out of the way now, and get a courtesy bike / car for the duration.
