tyre query

Am booked in to get a new tyre fitted monday, I have been reading a few threads over the weeks and decided to opt for a Pilot 2CT for the rear.

It occured to me (I checked with workshop chap, he said I could mix the tyres) that I would have a pilot power on the front (hardly worn) and a 2CT on the rear. Was wondering if anyone knew if that would cause problems if the rear has better grip, would I be at risk of loosing the front end?

Or is the difference in co-efficient in friction (ooo errr) so minimal it would not even register??

Any thoughts?

Rich

2ct is a fantastic tyre....

It'll be fine with a Pilot Power front!

Dont want to put a downer on things but if you run mis matched tyres your insurance is void, so if you had or causd an accident you could be deamed at fault as Michelin only recomend a 2ct front with a 2ct rear

Thumbs up

I don't know about the insurance issue, I suspect different companies may take different views but I mixed and mismatched different brands over the years on my ZZR1100 and got the best handling results from a Dragon rear and a Diablo front. I tried matched pairs of 207s, 208s, Diablos, Bridgestones and mixes of the above. As I was lucky to get 3000 miles out of a rear, I often had no choice but to mix, depending on availibility, often buying part worns.

This month's Bike has a good tyre test of which Pirellis came out top.

Shouldn't be a problem, I have the same set up on my old girl.

Yes, interesting results (tested on an 08 Blade at Bruntingthorpe).

Top with 5 stars was the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso

joint 2nd with 4 stars the Bridgestone BT016, Contisport Attack, Dunlop Qualifier D209, and Metzeler Sportec M3

joint 3rd with 3 stars the Avon Viper Sport, Michelin Pilot Power 2CT

last with 2 stars the Maxxis Supermaxx Sport.

I was surprised by the 2CT's showing given the feedback it gets in these parts.

It's not that 2ct are no good, I rated them as a very good tyre, it's just tyre technology has moved on, BT016's give more feedback, more even wear and just better all round. 2ct's been around a few years

While you are here folks, what is considered to be the mileage when the tyres are scrubbed in, and how do you do the edges?

I need to get both tyres renewed due to smash, as the insurance peeps will be paying I wonder what the best tyres are for road use?

If you could have any tyres on your S4R what would they be, hang the expense!!?

Rich.

Bike: S4R....Red

I'd stick with the Pilot power 2cts, just ridden into work in the wet. Quick warm up bags of feedback giving lots of confidence....that only gets better in the dry.
As I am a 80% road 20% track person they suit my needs perfectly.
Depends on your usage.

I wasn't. A no doubt professional rider, riding a Blade around a track, as opposed to ordinary peeps riding Monsters etc around city & country roads. Not really the same thing...

Me neither - I think by and large for (even spirited / very spirited) road use, there's not much to choose between 'em. No doubt for track use some of these differences on more track focused tyres can be measured in fractions of a second, but it surely ain't the same thing.

I was v happy with me Pilot Powers but am equally happy to try others out. I think there's a tendency to get into a 'brand loyalty' thang. You only really know how other tyres suit your bike and riding style when you try them.
