Advise: Should I go for the S4RS Tricolore or the 848?
Hi to all … I am new to the forum. I am already using the Monster 695, and in just 8 months I was bored from it since it could not match my skills. Therefore; I went to the Ducati showroom and I found those two bikes that I fell in love with … the 848 pearl white and the S4RS Tricolore… I took the 1098 for a test ride (they do not have an 848 for testing) for over 3 hours and I found it very powerful and a great ride during corners. But the seating position gives a lot of pressure on the wrists. It is a great bike on the road and it corners brilliantly. But for city traffic it is stressful on the body.
On the other hand the monster’s seating position is great for longer rides and city rides but at high speed (well my monster is just doing max 200km/h = 125mile/hour) it keeps my body exposed to the wind and it is really stressful. Plus at cornering I always hit my bike pegs.
I do not know how is the feeling on the S4RS tricolore and how much is the front fairing effective to protect me from the wind, but the Ohlins suspensions and the exclusivity of only 400 units ever build is very tempting.
Here came my frustration where I cannot decide between both. You see I will use the bike to commute to work with, but not every day, and to go out with the group, and to have fun with. The riding will always combine light and heavy traffic from city to highway driving and great corners all over the place. Track days will be rare.
I do not have the funds to buy both bikes at the same time… therefore I must decide between them. I am seeking your advice about this matter.
Should I go for the S4RS Tricolore or the 848?

The S4RS is a great bike for sure, had one for 2 years, just chopped it in for an 848. You really need to ride both bikes before you make your decision as they are chalk & cheese and both fantastic in their own right. Horses for courses. You won't be disappointed whichever you choose.

Considering you intend commuting, however infrequently, the S4Rs has to be the choice. It's an awesome bike, loads of mods available, and that lovely Ducati clutch rattle !

I have both a 1098s & an S4RS, I love riding them both (for different uses/occasions). If I had to only have one, it would have to be the 1098s.

Just chopped my 848 for an S4r........two very different bikes as you know.
IMHO 848 track orientated bike, quite full on.
S4r road bike, just as fast up to 3 figures, a bit more relaxed and for day to day stuff more fun I think. Suits my style of riding more, though have to say I loved the 848 as well.
Happy choosing...

IMHO, if you like the idea of riding a race rep, go for the 848. If you intend commuting or like the Monster riding position, go for the S4Rs.
Both are great bikes, but my preference is for grunt and ridability on the road. For me, that has to be the S4Rs. I've got a sportsbike for the track and it does that very well, whereas the S4Rs doesn't. Likewise, the sportsbike doesn't do the road very well whereas the S4Rs is perfect.
If you want sustained speeds on a Monster, get tucked in. Rest your chest on the tank and you'll miss a lot of the wind blast just like you do on a faired bike. I did that for four hours in the wind yesterday...

As everyones says very different bikes and different riding experiences. Although I have a mate who will happily ride his 1098S through London, commuting on a supersports bike is a bit like keeping an alsation in a council flat - you could do it however it's not ideal and probably lead to frustration and pain (and a very warm backside!).
